ok its very confusing but i really need some help ...

March 2006 i turned 19 --- i was getting social security checks because my father passed away when i was 14 ... so i was getting checks for that until the age of 18. So last year in 2006 i got a total of 3 checks - totalling about 1500. Also in 2006 i worked and made about 2600. I now want to file my taxes but i have not recieved anything from the state about the 3 checks i got for before i turned 19. Should i wait to file until that statement comes ? Is it ILLEGAL to file without mentioning those 3 checks?

You should get a 1099-ssA or something like that. So you should wait until you get that to calculate your taxes.

I would wait to see if you get the info from the government. If you dont you should still claim those checks. You did not even come close to making enough money for it to effect your return. If you do or do not claim the checks your return will be the same.

You did not make enough money to have your social security income taxable. So i would not worry about it and go ahead and file.

Just go to IRS.gov, call the 800 number and ask them...
