They buy a lot of products that are associated with the weather- shovels, winter clothing, home heating, etc.

What makes you think they buy anything different that what people in the US buys? Every human has basic needs...food, clothing, shelter. I am sure they like music, tv, computers, video games, books, cars, heat, shoes, etc. Its not like they are aliens or something damn.
