I'm in college in Boston, MA. But technically, my legal residence is in New York. I only worked in Mass, do I need to file a return in MA, NY, both? If both, do I claim no income in NY? Or do I claim what I made in MA.

Ok, i am wondering, i Efiled my taxes online, and the Efile was accepted by IRS Jan 13th. The company i went through emailed me once IRS had accepted and said i would have my return Jan 26th. When i checked the IRS website, however, they said BY jan 30th....not a big difference, but do you think i will recieve the refund the 26th like the company i filed through advised, or by the 30th like the IRS website indicates? Also, has anyone ever efiled online and recieved their refund later or earlier then told?

I'm being paid biweekly. The initial amount was 965.15 for payment. But after they removed taxes and retirement, I was left with 672.74. This works out to a little over 300 a week. Making it about 14k a year. I'm losing 11k to taxes and stuff...is this right? I claim as single and no dependencies.

My mom is asking someone to do my taxes, and I really don't want her to know how much I made this year (she likes to take my money). What will happen if I don't report all of my income for the year? I worked at four places in 2006: one place (around $3200), second ($600), and then I got an internship that paid $2400. Then in school, I made about $500.

What will happen if I don't send her the info for the internship? Can I just send her the current information, and then contact whoever later and tell them that I "forgot" some information?

What's are the possible problems that can come out of not reporting the internship money? I know nothing about taxes...any help would be appreciated.

If someone could explain what exactly filing taxes does, that would be great. Thanks.

My dad is retried, and my mom doesn't work. The only income for them is my dad's social security. I send my parents money on a regular basis to help support them financially. All the funds I send are through bank wire transferes, so everything can be easily shown on official papers from my bank.

Basically I want to know if there are any requirements (eg: salary maximum, etc) to being able to contribute to both a roth IRA and a 401k (or in my case a 403b). I've heard that once you reach a certain salary you can either contribute to a pre-tax OR a roth but not both.
