I'm in college in Boston, MA. But technically, my legal residence is in New York. I only worked in Mass, do I need to file a return in MA, NY, both? If both, do I claim no income in NY? Or do I claim what I made in MA.

You have to file your state income taxes in Massachusetts only. I don't know your financial situation but if you have any unearned income in New York (distributions, interest income, dividends, etc.), then you need to file a tax return for New York. If you don't have any income earned or unearned in New York, then you do not need to file a tax return for New York, just Massachusetts.

You need to file both. I would use turbotax.com. You just answer some questions and it basically does it for you.
