I am a citizen and I got married in a foreing country in July 2006, my wife had not been in USA , have not SSN.
In Octuber I filled a W4 as married for a new employer; now I'm not sure if i can fill taxes as single, becuase as married filling separeted my interest paid for student loan is not deductable.

Generally, your marital status on the last day of the year determines your status for the entire year.

I believe it is possible to file as married filing joint, even if your spouse has what is called an ITIN ( There is no federal law administered by any federal agency which prohibits the hiring of a person based solely on the fact that the person does not have a Social Security Number (SSN). Similarly, there is no federal law which prohibits the making of a payment to a person based solely on the fact that the person does not have an SSN).

If you were married as of the last day of the year, you are not allowed to file your return as single.

Regardless of your geographical location, your marital status at the end of the year determined your status, you file as maried.
