Whenever we do our taxes ourselves, using turbo tax, we don't seem to get back much money? I am wondering if getting a CPA would be a better idea?

I need to get involved with some activism in that area as I can't stand the way my portion of taxes are being used and a lowered set of various taxations would be a great help to every American......Thanks in advance. I must say that since I have been using this Yahoo service I have been getting a much better quality of input than any other method I have seen, groups etc..

I am really confused as to who I can claim, and what I can deduct as far as my kids go. They are both over 18. One of them just graduated high school in May and the other one is home with me too, but works full time and goes to college. I wish they could get out on their own, but not happening so far. They like the comfort of home and someone else buying the groceries and paying the bills here. My daughter works 1 day a week for minumum wage. She moved out for 4 months and had to come home or starve. Her boyfriend was not the great supporter she thought he would be. Should I try turbo tax?

For tax purposes, what is the deadline for a year end participant contribution to be deposited in a company 401k plan?

Also, what determines the date that a 401k contribution made by the participant and deducted from my bonus check was "effective" for tax purposes? Is it:

1. 12/28/06 which is the date that the bonus check was issued (net of the 401k contribution I requested to be made),

2. 1/3/07 which is the date when my employer actually wrote the check to make the contribution, or

3. Some other date?

I'm trying to find on the IRS website when your final paycheck of the year is counted. In other words, we received our paycheck in '07 for work performed in 2006.

Which tax year is that paycheck supposed to go to? I've always heard that it is when you actually RECEIVE your pay is the determining factor. My employer put it on 2006.
I can't find anything on the IRS website..... Any accountants??

I formed an LLC for my websites that make money from google ad sense. It makes about $30,000 a year. When I have dinner with potential business clients for this LLC it's obviously a valid expense. But I also have a full time job with another company. During my lunch hour I'm allowed to work on my LLC but I need food. Can I order food delivered to the office everyday and deduct that as a valid expense for the LLC? The LLC is taxed as an S-Corp. It's a Nevada LLC but also registered as a foreign LLC in California.

I have a plan to pay 90.00 a month for 36 months. Which I will end up paying back 3240.00. And that is probably the amount that I will get back from my income tax refund since I am single with a daughter and make less than 20,000.00 a year. Does the trustee keep my refund and if so how will that effect my payment plan.

On my annual social security report, my income for 6 of the past 19 years were incorrect, significantly lower than they should have been. Are benefits upon retiring based on your average income over your working life, or only based on the last year's income that you worked? Is it worth the hassle to correct what was on the report? Will those errors impact the monthly benefit I receive upon retiring? I think my former employer cooked the books and didn't pay SS taxes - is that why the statement is in error? Can I use my old tax returns to prove that I actually made more money than the statement shows? I have a lot of questions but any answers I receive will be greatly appreciated.
