My wife and I recently get married at the end of December of 2006. She doesn't work yet. Can I claim her as dependent for the 2006 tax year?

Hi, I changed jobs in the year 2006. So Do I have to file 2 separate tax returns for my two employers? If yes, Can I claim a standard deduction on one tax return and a itemized deduction on the other?
Any information on this will be appreciated
Thanks

I signed up for a dependent care FSA this year. The total amount available per calendar year is $5000.00 and I chose the whole amount. I get paid weekly, so, I have $96.15 taken out of each paycheck.

My son's daycare is $145 per week. I know that I will use the $5000 prior to year end so am not worried about "using it or losing it". However, I was wondering if this is a good plan and how it will affect my child tax credits when I do my tax return next year? Also want to know if this account can also be used for my son's medical prescriptions & Dr. visits? I heard that you may not be able to if you have only a dependent care plan set up.

Do you ultimately feel the FSA is a good advantage and why?

Thanks

Are there better times to buy/sell ETF's for tax purposes? Was wondering if certain times were more beneficial in terms of filing taxes. Does the type of security matter?

i went on h&r block just to do the estimation calculator, when i put me and my husband together with our two kids, maxed out the child care amount (2500) a piece, included an estimate on our mortgage taxes, we bought our house in september and we were only estimated to get a little over 2200 dollars but if i file head of household with the two kids, the child care, plus the two months of mortgage taxes i came out estimated at a little over 5300 dollars...what's the deal i thought being married helped you out on taxes...neither me or my husband make over 30k a year but it seems like the working man get no breaks at all?...am i missing out on something?

I plan on using the Dependent Reimbursement Account (DRA going forward) for Day care for my one year old. The max I can put in the account in mu state is $5,000.00 and his tuition is $600.00 a month. Should I set aside the pre tax $5,000.00 or claim the child tax credit at the end of the year? This is tearring me up because I know I have to earn about $825.00 to earn $600.00 after tax.

In addition I am not married but do live with the childs mother. If I do the DRA, can she claim him and get the child tax credit?

I live in North Carolina.

If the person is giving away something, why are they imposed a tax for giving a gift? Where is the logic in that? Just curious for my own knowledge purposes.

Yeah 3 of my relatives told me that HR Block had short them a few hundred bucks, after another preparer did thier papers again and found out they should have recieved more, but HR Block said, "no well we sent your tax return already" i dont know if this is entierly true but I have been warned not to go to HR Block, and I dont know anything about tax filing, the only reason i wanted to go to a professional is because I am in college, i have a newborn, and well i dont know how to file my that form that colleges give you that list your scholarship and grants that may be tax deductible. Please tell me whats a good service that is not expensive.

We need to claim our mortgage interest and taxes, and are filing separately. Should just one of us claim all the interest, or can we split it up?

I have an older car I wanted to give my dad for free. I went to the DMV and put gift on the title and gave it to my dad to sign. Now the title is only in his name. Does this mean he'll owe some tax at the end of the year to IRS for capital gains tax?
