Since the UN has its HQ in New York City, do they pay taxes to America and New York?

By taxes, I mean property taxes (for the building) and income taxes (for collecting the dues from other countries)?

We have been seperated from December 2005 and is in the process of getting a divorce. We have seperate address where we lived the whole of 2006. The question is can we file jointly - as we are still legally married. The 2 W2's we have has seperate address - does that make a difference? I know my seperated wife has to agree to file jointly - but just want to make sure it is legal first before I ask her. Thanks in advance.

I owe back taxes with me and my (ex) husband. This is the first year to file single because of the recent divorce. If I were to get a refund this year, does the FED take my refund or only the primary of the original tax filings?"

I am looking for a great tax filing website which will allow to file state and federal for absolutely nothing. Now if it has to be two different sites (one for each) that's fine. Where do you guys go to do this?

I purchased a home and rehabbed it. I have several thousands of dollars in receipts from those improvements. Can this be written off on my taxes? The property was not my primary residence. I realize I will need a professional to do my taxes, but was hoping for some answers prior to that. Thanks!

Chase Bank gave me a $75 bonus when opening a free checking account with a free business account, but my h & r lady told me I'm supposed to use a different tax form called "1040 schedule c" for decorating consultant rather than reporting taxes as a business. I'm totally new to this since it's my 1st year reporting taxes. I would like to keep my business account so I can be able to separate business from personal, but since I'm not going to use the business name, am I supposed to close this acconunt and return the $75 bonus? or do you think they will let me keep the business account & the bonus?

I'm getting about 15 items shipped to me from China and I'm curious what kind of red tape I may face upon their arrival.

My logic is this: If Wal*Mart and every other major store does it, why can't I?
