These aren't large savings around 1000 dollars each but am looking for the best custodial accounts with high interest rates for my kids. We prefer the custodial because they don't have to pay taxes on their interest but we also want them to get a good rate?!?! We had their money in our credit union but the interest rates were so low it was pathetic. We have recently gotten our own online accounts but have noticed a lot of the banks require an e checking to open an e savings and get the high rates..looking for a savings or moneymarket for the kids..or would a cd be better???

I just saw this film on my vacation in California and was shocked at the way the credit card industry ahs manipulated this nation into a history of debt. The fact alone people have commited suicide over the impending doom of overwhelming creditcard fees (especially the heartbreaking tale of college students) is mind boggling. The reality of the matter is there really is a sick obsession amongst credit card companies that targest those unable to afford payments and ensures they get credit cards- I though my $1500 debt was bad...

I was browsing blogs this afternoon, and I came to see this question.

Which would you choose between the two?

P.S.

I went through my bank and the term was only 18 months.. I need something longer so my payments are not outstanding. Maybe something like 80 or 100 a month. I don't want an auto or home loan. Just a personal loan for about 4,000-5,000 DOLLARS. My bank is out of the question because of the payment term. I know in the long run I will be paying more.. but I need my payments to be very small. THANKS!

I am having a copy/print job done and the sales person who I made agreement with on the price for the entire job had ran me off a sample print or copy, which was not that good , so I asked if he could make it more clear and detailed looking in the graphics, so he ran another one and showed it to me and it looked very good. so I said fine, do the whole job and I made full payment.
Well, I called to check on it and the "manager of the copy center" told me that she could not complete the job for that price since the guy who had made agreement on the price was "new" and had run half of my job on the color copy machine (even though it is black ink it makes it appear nicer) and that she would have to do the rest on the other machine. Well, the other machine makes the copy/print not look nearly as good . But she says that she cannot do it and has to do it the other way, By the way this place is a large chain called Office Max. What would you do ? Is this fair?

My son only 18 got a credit card on-line with out having a job . Even though we have talked to him about the problems with the cards. Now he will spend the next year trying to pay . I believe to get a credit card you should have to show proof that you can repay. Proof that you have a job, checking and saving account.
PLEASE WARN YOUR CHILDREN NOT TO USE CREDIT CARDS

I had $11,000 of my own money saved up with no debts whatsoever and I needed a car to get me to and from my college classes.

I spent ALL MY $11,000 on a $12,000 1998 white 6-cylinder Camaro Coupe with 24K miles and the other $1,000 had to be from my parents.

I was flat broke just like that and I even truly wanted the car in the first place. I was just rushing into it too fast. I went from $11,000 all the way down to having literally nothing left. AND I WORKED MY AS# OFF AT A MCDONALD'S FOR A YEAR RIGHT BEFORE MY PURCHASE AND SPEND ALL OF MY TIME SAVING UP MONEY FROM WHEN I WAS 11 ALL THE WAY TO WHEN I WAS 21 WHEN I MADE THIS BAD PURCHASE.

My parents and sister said I made a good decision, but I know I didn't. When you have a golden opporunity to have over $10,000 saved up in cash debt free at 21 years old, you should make sure you still have money in the bank.

I should have spent no more than $4,000 on car, at least I would still had $7,000 saved up. DON'T YOU AGREE??

We borrowed money from a family member and have been making payments. We have ran into financial difficulties again. They have said they are going to get a lawyer. Neither one of us have documents or receipts of how much is owed or has been paid. We want to make payments again but can't right now. We have just bought a house and ran into some construction problems beyond our control. Can they take our house? What will this judgement mean?

My credit union has a hold policy on personal checks, and I don't feel like depositing checks and waiting before I can withdraw them. The issuers bank is nearby, and I was wondering if most banks will cash checks issued by them (without any fees) if I don't have an account with them.
