It's a scam. Send the $2600 back with a letter telling them to keep half for themselves, take the taxes out of the other half, and to send a man in a van round with the balance in cash...

Is it from a Canadian bank? My neighbor got hit with the same scam. You will cash the check no problem, but when you try to collect on the winnings they ask you to wire transfer the tax money on it. From this they get more money from you as well as your bank info to suck the money out. I told my neighbor to keep the money he cashed and not to wire back money to them. It is clearly a scam and likely a money laundering scam. Call the FBI. And oh yea, cash that check.

It's is a scam. My son got one recently. He trashed it immediately.
The check is to cover taxes and you are to deposit it and send a sum of money from the deposit. Well, guess what, the check is no good.

I really hope you are not falling for this!!!

Tell the person to take the money for taxes out of your winnings.

See what happens then.
