We are based within the UK.

We are owned by a much larger austrian company.

We have a seperate board of directors - one being english and UK based and the other Austrian and austrian based.

However, of last week the austrian company that owns our company decided to withdraw the directorship of the austrian director. This was done without knowledge from either of the uk based and austrian based director of the uk company.

Is this legal? I thought that any decisions like that would have to be negotiated with the directors of the uk based company.

Any help is appreciated.

John.

My family owns a small business. I get calls often from potential employers who want references for our former employees. I love to give good references when they're deserved, but my father insists on NEVER giving a negative reference--even when we know the employee in question was awful. I think he's afraid of legal repercussions, but as long as you're telling the truth about the person's work performance, isn't it better to be honest?

Business invest time to attract customers, but some customers are simply not worth having. So some business think that they should fire the customers they lose money on.

-Is it acceptable to fire customers who cost you money on an ethics point of view?
-Is it acceptable for the company to focus efforts on profitable customers or should they all be treated equally?
-What is the downside for financial institutions of finding which customers are profitable and discourage those that are not profitable?
-In what industries would it make sense for government regulation that ensures all customers receieve some basic level of service?

My husband said that he heard on glenn beck or one of those crazy talk shows (sorry I think all that man does is try to scare the living shiznit out of people any chance he gets) that the american dollar is worth less than the canadian dollar (fair enough I said this must have happened before everything fluctuates) but according to glenn this has never happened before and it is a sure sign that our econamoy is crashing...so I ask is this true that this has never happened before or is just another one of his scare tactics? If possible could I be linked to acticles on this subject. I have tried a search but came up with nothing. Thanks so much in adavnce.

Received a $14,000 local check Friday for some overseas merchandises. Checked with my bank and was told 2-3 business days is required for the check to clear. Asked my bank on Wednesday and was told they did not received any notification of NSF so we wire transfer the 50% deposit to the overseas supplier. The following day Thursday we received a call from the bank, the check has bounced!

Is there anything we can do to collect on the bad check?
Material is on order and delivery will be in 5-6 weeks.

A firm pays Rs.10000/- ( on account ) to Mr.X (labour charges dues) on 1/1/07. However no bill/invoice is submitted by Mr. X as he would submit the final bill later. The firm passes the following entries on 01/01/07:
Labour charges a/c. Dr. 10000
To Mr. X a/c. 10000
( Being labour charges due to Mr. X)

Mr. X a/c. Dr. 10000
To Bank A/c. 10000
( Paid on account to Mr. X)

On 15/03/07, Mr. X submits his final bill of Rs. 15000/- ( which includes 10,000/- booked earlier).

How should the firm now book the final bill of Rs. 15000/- dated 15/03/07 ..as 10,000/-
of the above has already been booked on 01/01/07.
Please guide me how to journalise this bill of 15000/- , keeping in mind the the journal entry of 10000/- passed on 01/01/07 as charges due.
