Hi i have just gone to check my sons bank statement at nationwide and it shows all his money has been withdrawn. he had over £800 and now only has around £1 left. i asked him if he withdrew the money but he says no. could you tell me if this is fraud and what i can do about it to get the money back. It is not a debit card but a cashcard and it looks like all the money has been taken out from a cashmachine at different days. i know this as on the statement it said £100 has been withdrawn on a monday, and another £100 on wednesday and it has been withdrawn from a cashmachine because that is the daily limit. £100. Could you please tell me what i can do and if i will be able to get the money back. Thanks

Go to the branch. They will be able to tell you where the money was taken. Also many cash machines have cameras so they will be able to see who took the money.
Has he still got his card ?

It could be that your son is a victim of a fixed cash machine used to create clones of cards and derive the pin numbers. Ask him where and when he last used the card. Was the transaction successful? Was there anything fixed to it that looked a bit odd?

Go to Nationwide and report it. Unfortunately banks do not like to admit if their machines are in error. However if the machine has been tampered with it may have already been noticed and dealt with. If you feel that you are not receiving suitable help from Nationwide, go to the Police.

Unfortunately cash machine fraud of this type is on the increase in the UK.

the first thing u need to do is check where the cash card is. does your son hold it or do you. you need to contact the Nationwide and tell them. u dont mention your sons age is it possible that he could have withdrawn the money? where has the money been withdrawn, it should be on the statment, is it near u? as to whether u will be able to get the money back only the building society can tell u, it depends if he has used the card or it has been used by someone ie one of his friends for instance who has managed to get the card and pin number. if it has been withdrawn in another way and is totally nothing to do with u then u shouldbe able to get it back. my mum had her debit card stolen in a supermarket few years ago. she used to keep it in the side pocket of her shopping bag, (in the days when u had to sign not pin no) when she got to checkout couldnt find card so assumed had left it at home, but couldnt find it at home so my dad rang the bank, it ihad been stolen and used across town to spend over £800 in one hour. she got this money back but this as i say was a few years ago and maybe what they do now has changed. my daughter and son in law both had money taken from their accounts by someone who used it to set up mobile phone contracts, they eventually got this back as well. your first thing should be to talk to nationwide. good luck.

Mmmm the bank will be questioning who has access to the card and PIN because you cannot get money out of a cashpoint without a PIN number.

Oh dear. Either he's lost the cash card - complete with PIN - or someone's cloned his card.

You need to go into the branch first thing tomorrow and explain what has happened.

Good luck - you're going to need it.

Is it possible that your son is being bullied by another kid at school and has been forced to hand over his card and pin number? Where is your son's card now, at this moment?

if you have the cashcard..........he did it........if he doesn't report it as lost or stolen....since they need a password to access..i doubt it is a stranger...............
