I don't know how your particular employment agreement is set up but in most positions there is the once a year 'evaluation' that gives both the employee and supervisor/employer an assessment of the employees progress.

Prior to that time coming along, I felt I had reached the apex of the potential of my position. When I received the paperwork (evaluation), I was asked how could I improve, what would give me more satisfaction professionally and tactfully (without sounding arrogant). I answered by writing what I really thought. And it went something like this:

Question: In what areas to you feel you need to improve in?

Answer: In the past year, I feel I have learned and mastered the requirements of my position. I have set up reference and training manuals in which have proven invaluable. I feel that I am ready to take my responsibilties and/or position to the next level. Up to now I have enjoyed working as a (state position, list dept.) however, I am ready for new challenges.

Note:
This is another way of asking for an increase in your pay. However, it will not come easy if you just want 'money' and are not willing to prove it. Be ready to put your money where your 'mouth wants to go, expect an increase of no more than once a year and a rate of about 5%. Also, if this approach is not sitting well with you, you can always state in the letter that you would like his/her suggestions on maximizing your skill in hopes of transitioning into a higher position.

Good Luck.

If you've proven yourself to be an excellent worker then your job performance should speak well for you. Contemplate on receiving the outcome you wish but also reason with yourself, If I don't get what I want life will continue on it's present course (which can't be all that bad). Count your blessings, remain positive, and remember "You Catch More Bees With Honey"
