And I am in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where both banks are present. I want to open a Checking account to deposit my cheques. Which is the better bank? Also, both are close by so distance does not matter.

I like Wachovia...the customer service is excellent! One drawback- they assess $2-3 fees if you use non-Wachovia ATMs...I live in an area with a lot of branches so it isn't inconvenient.

Any bank is better than B of A.
B of A has gotten to big, complicated and impersonal in my opinion.

Compare fees and the costs of all the services that you will be using. They are both reputable companies.

that is a personal decision try calling the banks to see what they offer
