I know this might sound like a dumb question, but I am just wondering. I just got a new job and I can't find my ss card any where and believe me I have looked every where. I know that I can request another but it takes 10 business days to get it and my first day is tomorrow and they expect for me to bring it in. So what is the worst that could happen if they have to wait for it. I really need help with this one cuz Im goin crazy here.

I don't want to seem unqualified, because I know I'm not. But is there a specific way to let a potential employer know that you've been raising a family for the last 7yrs on your resume?

Like my father supposedly can only live in the five boroughs. Is that true. For example, would it be possible to live in NJ while being an NYC worker?

The reason I ask is because I have not had a "real job" for about 7 yrs now, (raising 2 boys....plenty of work!!!) and I'm ready to look for a job now. A big part of me feels that I should lie and say that I have been working, while another part of me feels that honesty is the best policy! I really doubt that any employer would hire someone who has been unemployed for that long. What would you do?

People usually dont mess with me. i back was coming from the doctor and she asked me what happend and then she told my boss like i wasnt gonna tell him. me and my boss talked about the whole situation yesterday, and she went and told him like it was a surprise to him.?So i was really offended by it, so i gave her a call and left a message to ask her what her motives were. Am i over reacting or is she just trying make trouble? Word of mouth told me that she used to do what she wanted and when the females started filling the job she started getting really bitchy like she runs stuff, but she doesnt... anywho, what do you think?

I am currently employed and reside in Michigan and I have been looking for a job the past two months. I originally planned on moving to the East Coast and was applying there, but applied to jobs in California as well.

Well a few weeks later I have a job offer from a company on the East Coast but while on my way back from visiting the company I received a voicemail from a company out in the West Coast that I was interviewing with the past month.

Both are very tempting and would do wonders for my career, what's the best way to approach the situation and not burn any bridges? I'd like to see what the West Coast company has to offer but they would like to fly me out a week and a half from now, while the East Coast position would like me to start ASAP.

I graduated with a degree in Spanish in 2000, but since then, I've mostly been working menial jobs, though for a year and a half now, I've also been working part-time as a Spanish tutor at a college. I would like to use my degree to land a better job, though, so will the fact that I have spent the last several years working crap jobs keep me from landing a well-paying job that would in which I could use my linguistic skills?

the decision not to hire me

2007-08-05 06:41:09 · 1 answers · asked by Anonymous

I hope this is the right place to ask this question so, I really need more hours at work and I'm scared to ask for them. You see, I work a part-time job in retail and I leave for college in a week and won't be working there anymore for the time being.

I asked my boss for more hours a couple weeks ago, and he said he would give them to me, but I haven't gotten any more hours than usual. My work has not been the very best lately so I'm worried he doesn't want to give me extra hours because of that. But I really need extra money for school and it's my last chance to work since it's my last week.

About half the employees are teenagers who're off the schedule this week because of school, so I figured they could spare more hours at least! But I'm afraid to ask because I'm scared he thinks my work has been bad. How should I go about asking him for more hours when I already did and that got no results? Please help, all help is appreciated!

What would you say?

I'm contracted to work 4 hours a week, but for about 6 months now i've been working 4 hours daily, 5 days a week (mostly, a few differencece here and there). But do I have to work overtime? Can I refuse to work any overtime if something comes up? Would this count as Holiday, or unpaid Holiday, or what? HELP! My boss is an **** and I need to know my rights before he can exploit me anymore!

This is a mini continuation of a previous job related question. At the end of this week I saw my schedule go from 20+ to under 6 next week. I spoke to someone at work and they said in a round about way that if we are not constantly after customers, greeting them at the door and following up if they need help and this is not done we will not receive the many hours we want and deserve. This individual did not say these things in exact terms but I can still infer the point they were trying to get across. My problem is that I have been a great employee always coming to work on time, when schedules have changed or hours have been altered I have never made a peep about it. Is what this person doing legal and also how can this idividual being a brand new employee be able to do this even though they are one of our upper managment people in our shop. I think they just wants to get rid of me just because they do not like me for no reason I can think of.

I have reason to believe I am getting an interview within my company for a completely different department. This is the job opportunity I've been waiting for for years. This is exactly what I went to school for! I've mentioned the possible interview to some co-workers and other higher ups. I know my boss appreciates the hard work I do for my department. (I'm in management) Bonus time is coming up in a month and it is at my boss's discretion as to the amount I get paid. I would love to use him as a referance, but I'm not sure what the right move is at this point. Advice anyone?
