The reason I ask is because I have not had a "real job" for about 7 yrs now, (raising 2 boys....plenty of work!!!) and I'm ready to look for a job now. A big part of me feels that I should lie and say that I have been working, while another part of me feels that honesty is the best policy! I really doubt that any employer would hire someone who has been unemployed for that long. What would you do?

Dont lie and interviewer will completely understand that you being a homemaker. Put what you have been doing and the things you have learned.

Things like Managing your time, Multi tasking, Working under pressure things that have more then prepared you for the job more then any other job could have.

They get it. GOOD LUCK

When your kids have done something wrong are you more strict when they tell you the truth or when they lie to you? It's a basic question. Honesty is the best policy. While employers may note that you haven't had actual work force experience in the last 7 years, most have their own families and know you haven't been sitting around either. Go in the door confident, tell the truth and show a desire to get back into the working world. It will all be fine. However, most companies now make it a habit to verify employment after you've interviewed so lying will be a certain way to lose a potential job.

It is very common for employers to hire those who have stayed at home to raise children for many years. Put this on your resume. Also keep in mind, many companies are going to run a background check and you'll be caught immediately if this is the case.

Wow! Aren't you teaching your kids some integrity there!

Sure, son, it's a greate idea to lie to potential employers.

Mothers return to the workforce all the time without having to lie about it.
