I will graduate in December with a B.A. in Sociology/Human Services and am interested in finding a job in either South/North Carolina or Georgia. I am seeking an entry level job as a Human Service Specialist and would like to know if these states have any good career oppportunities?

If you had an interview would you ask how much they planned on paying you before you took the job, or is that rude?

I'm 13 years old and I do construction cleanup for this guy. He only pays me $5 an hour for the outrageously hard work. How do I ask him for more money without being rude?

Thanks, Jeff

im 16 and for the past month or so i have worked at chuck e cheese. i applied to a whole bunch of clothing stores as well as jewel. i really hoped something would come up, and when CEC called i jumped at the opportunity to earn cash and to start being more independent. its not that i dont like the job--the people are amazing and the kids are so cute! but one manager i cant stand, i work between 6 and 8 hour shifts--ususlly closing--and i usually work 4 or 5 days a week for $7 and hour. and if they say im getting off at 10, its usually 10:30 or 11. i never get off on time. then osco (jewel) called me in for an interview. they are offering flexible hours and $7.55 and hour....and evening shifts from 5-10 getting off at 10. id be stocking shelves and computer work and other stuff..not bad right? so do i stay at CEC or go next door to osco? again! CEC isnt a bad place but i dont know what to do? my best friend says its a new experience and not to think of it as giving up. help? ♥

there is an older guy at work i found attractive but thought was rude, so avoided him. i decided to win him over because i do have to work with him sometimes. i am a very friendly, open person in general and NEVER crossed the line. we never touched remotely, were never close in proximity, or talked about anything to do with dating. i am generally a good girl who just wants to be cool with people. i do not wear revealing clothes at my job, yet he was always checking out my boobs, in an obvious way, which made me uncomfy, so i always crossed my arms in fact. one day he started saying hi and since we joke around, on my break, i went up and said hi at his cubicle. i was like i just came to say hi and he says, "hi" obnoxiously. i told him he was giving me a mean look and he starts babbling about the color printer. i get curt and leave, embarassed and annoyed at how arrogant he was towards me. i have been ignoring him and now he always stared at me (non-sexually) and holds the door open?

I went to an a job interview for a job, and the man insinuated that I pretty much had the job, since I have some recommendations from other people who work there (his managers). He didn't make an offer, though. He said we should meet with his boss to increase the chances of a higher salary for me than we he had budgeted.
During the next 3 week, I contacted him two times via e-mail. He answered after the second e-mail, apologized for not answering earlier. He told me to tell him which day of this week worked for me to meet with his boss. I answered, but he has not replied. It's almost the end of the week. Should I contact him via phone to increase chances of meeting tomorrow? Or should I just "wait it out"? I don't want to look desperate (I'm not), but also don't want to show lack of initiative.

Anyone work miracles?
She's been here 10 months and most training hasn't clicked for her (basic office /computer /phones) She is mostly reliable on phones and some filing but the rest is a crap shoot. The boss said she can stay so I have to find the silver lining or miracle. Anyone got any tips? Ideas? Has anyone been able to turn a similar situation around? I have tried several different angles, types of training, styles, reference material, etc. but it's barely penetrated. At 10 months here she's somewhere around where I thought she'd be at 3 months. I'm hoping you people can help me out. Thank you!!!

I work for a big, professional company and we're expected to dress appropriately. I have a co worker who wears little tank tops and tight pants all the time. Today she showed up in a little lacy tank top that shows off her entire bra, not to mention the material is so thin that you can see EVERYTHING. It's white and lacy and she isn't even bothering to cover it up. She looks like a streetwalker. It sounds really petty but this girl thinks that she can get away with everything, all she does all day is surf the web and talk on her cell phone.

What should I do?

I realize that three fourths of success is one hundred percent connections. (if that even reasons) As such I was wanting to ask anyone out there who might be knowledgeable in regards to building up connections amongst people. In short I am a young college student who has a burning desire to be more successful than everyone else. It is a nature in me that will not accept to be anything less than absolutely the best at what I do, no matter what that is. i also know though that I have not a clue how to get to know the people at the top in order to build a network of people that I can use in the future.
So how does a young, relatively unnoticed and unimportant, college student meet people whom he has absolutely no chance of meeting under normal everyday circumstances? what can i do to get my name out there so that people will remember me when I go knocking on the door of opportunity upon graduation? Thanks for your help!

My job is SO boring to me! Ive been at this company 4 years, it's a very good company which is why i'm still here. I dont see myself moving, i also dont see myself loving any job. I am in school for a masters in communication, I work in publishing sales, more on the support side of things. Im kind of hoping that once i get my MS I'll be able to do something else...but for now i'm really bored to tears. Anyone else feel like me?

If you worked at a great company as an intern (because you didn't have any work experience after college to being with), that pays GREAT, but you are not using much of your skills, but there is another part of the facility that has what you would like to do that does not currently have a position open. Would you stay here until that other area opens a position, keep doing what you are doing now (for 1 more year) which is some-what career related, or leave and find a permanent job within your field?

My answer:
I have no idea when they will open a position in the other area
Or move on? I dont want to move on because I feel that just 1 yera of work experience that is not as much career-related won't cut it to get me a permanent job, or they might even say "you still don't have enough experience.. you need at least 3 years..."

I'm filling out a job application online requiring me to input two professional references. I need to fill these parts in as the fields cannot be left blank. I have one person in mind I could ask (a former supervisor) but need a second.

I've been self-employed for the past few years, so I don't have any recent supervisors or coworkers, and my supervisors from past jobs (besides the one mentioned) left their departments long ago and I have no way of getting a hold of them. It's been years since I've been out of school, so I don't have any teachers, counselors, or community service leaders I could ask who would actually remember who I am to vouch for me.

The only other person I can think of is my current client, but I don't know any etiquette regarding asking them. 1) The job I'm applying for has nothing to do with the kind of work I do for my client. 2) I don't want my client to think this other job will take away from the work I do for them--I want to continue to work with them.

Ok, so im between those two. Ive asked friends and family about it and as predicted friends said game designer and family said psychologist. I like grame design because of the variety of jobs out there and because of my vast imagination and drawing abilities but I also like psichology because im a very good listener and i find the human mind interesting. But heres the thing: i like psichology but i dont like reading and i like game design but i hate math. So yeah, let me hear out your opinions.

I have just recently moved up to a full-time position at work, and have 14 holidays (not including weekends or stat holidays) to use before December 31. I don't want to take my time off too soon, but my company prefers it if I use all of my vacation time before the end of the year, since there is no rollover to the next year. Between now and the December, when are some acceptable times to use my holidays?

Okay, so I got the application to the following stores:

EB Games (video game store)
American Eagle (clothing)
Gamestop (video game store)
Pac Sun (clothing)
Barnes and Noble (book store)

Basically I'm just applying for positions such as cashier, customer service person, you know those store positions.

So when I go to turn in my application, who should I give it to? The store manager, or the person that gave me the application?

Also how should I dress while giving the application, decent, casual, etc?

Thanks!

The deadline to turn it in is Friday. I just found out about the job yesterday and have been scrambling to update my resume and write a pertinent "letter of interest".
Will it look bad if I turn in my resume tomorrow? It's supposed to be either mailed or emailed, but I'm afraid the mail won't get there in time. The job has been posted in the paper since july 24th, but I only occasionally peruse the employment section. Will it look terrible if it arrives on the day before the deadline?

I'm considering turning it in personally, and not even mailing it. Should I do this? The ad specifies either email or mail, but I think emailing a resume is unprofessional. Please advise!!!!
