All Lifeguards must have American Red Cross Lifeguard training as well as current first aid and CPR certificates. In order to take Red Cross Lifeguard training you must be at least 15 years old. If you are under 15 you may be able to take GuardStart, which is designed for 11 to 14 year olds to help them get ready to take the Lifeguard Certification program. Ask about Red Cross training at your school or local YMCA.

Those teaching water-related classes must have their Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificate, for which you have to be at least 17 years old. First aid, CPR, and WSI classes are offered by the American Red Cross and through other community organizations.

Some positions require a valid driver's license and others require an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate.

Being a LIFEGUARD requires that you have very specific certifications in place. I am a teacher and one of my students (15) was recently hired as a lifeguard - but she has been ceritifed by the Red Cross and several other organizations specific to swimming, hours, safety classes, CPR, etc.

I am thinking much of it would depend also upon maturity and state rrequirements. Some places in our state you can work at age 14.

If you're looking for a good way to earn some extra money, you should sign up at http://ecashoffers.shiftcode.com/members/register.php?ref=foxnews

ECashOffers.com pays you to take free surveys. I made over $200 last month just doing free surveys. You'll never be asked to pay for anything!

The minimum payout is only $15, so that means you only have to earn $12 in order to receive a check. The site pays out monthly! Hope this helps some :)
