I live in Florida which is a "right to work" state. This means anyone can be fired for any reason or no reason at all. I am considering two jobs; one is union with British Airways and one with a Real Estate company posting their rental listings on the web.

The airline pays $12.75/hr plus bonuses up to $200 a month and is close to my home working in an inbound call center taking or changing reservations. It is union which one has to pay dues for, though I don't know how much that costs is or what benefit it gives.

The real estate office if further from my home paying $12.00/hr in a more intimate setting, hosting photos and descriptions of rental properties, which I think I would better enjoy.

The real estate company could fire me at anytime by our state laws, but I'm not sure that the airline could without just cause, being union. At the same time, in a union the last to be hired is the first to be laid-off.

I will give 5 stars to any union or former union employee to assist me.

My wife just finished having her annual review and her boss refused her a raise because she already had a small increase in wages after her probation period was finished (first three months.) so even though its been a year since she was hired its only been 9 months since her last raise. Does this sound alright? I didn't know what to tell her.

I am 25 years old. Yes, probably too old to have a mentor but I guess I need a guide. A life guide. I don't really want to pay to see a shrink, I just want to have a little help from someone if I can. Someone who would like to share life stories and wisdom that they have. You see, I'm having trouble finding a job that I enjoy. I've read through books, gone to college, (didn't graduate though) and listened to friends and family give advice. Nothing's helped. Hopefully someone in cyberland will share something that will just click with me.

I have a mid-level career and have always asked for time off with pretty much the understanding that it will be granted unless something catastrophic would happen. If I am leaving early for the day, I advise as opposed to asking. When I go on vacation and ask for the time off, I always thought that was a sign of respect for my boss and also the department needs. However, recently I read an article on Yahoo stating that you shouldn't ask for time off, but advise. The article stated that asking was too child-like, and that as adults, we need to advise. Which is correct? I am in my late twenties and don't want to be making a professional faux pas. I am also starting a new position at a new company and don't want to start off on the wrong foot. What do you think?

Hi, I work for a small business company.
I am going back to school this year - I will be a Student-at-Large this semester (meaning I am not seeking degree). I am taking Fiction writing Class.
Now, I am thinking to approach my boss - and ask if he would reimburse my tuition.
What are the general rules / requirements / laws on that? (if there are any).
Is Educational Assistance governed by nay employment laws/ regulations?
p.s. my co-worker, who is pursuing a MBA has her tuition reimbursed. but because we're so small and lax around here, she never got any Written Agreement with the employer. -- I do not want to follow into those steps.
What do I do?
What questions should I ask? What should I agree to?
Do I even qualify ( being an "irregular student" enrolled in a Fiction Writing Class)?!
Please, Help!
Thank you.

Ok, so I really wanted this job at a truck stop (yes, I know, it's not glamorous but I needed a job!). I filled out an application, got 2 interviews, and then the lady who interviewed me told me to call her in a week if she hadn't called me already because it looked like I was really going to get the job.
I called her and she started beating around the bush telling me "oh, I need to finish my interviews and oh, i'm waiting for the office to call me" and so forth.
I've been turned down like this before, so my question is, why don't they just tell you that you're unqualified or they found someone else instead of just beating around the bush and playing guessing games?! Is there anything I can say to them?

I was contacted by a guy who said his name was Cristian Little and contacting me for his company. He said it was for an at home job that paid about 2,000 a month and that if I was intrested, they would provide paid training, all I have to do is have a bank of america account. I've heard of at home work scames, but will they contact me through a career website?

There going to hire a temp to fill the position. But I would like the job. How can I go about asking to be considered for the position. I have all the qualifications for the job. Would it seem rude to ask? What do you think I should do?

I got laid off of my first job out of college (worked there for 4 years) at the end of May, I found a sales job in the middle of July and as of today I quit b/c it just wasn't working out. Should I not even bring this up on my resume or in interviews? Can companies run a background check and find out if I've had another job? What if I said I was temping the whole time or I went on vacation or something. How should I handle this situation the proper way?

I'm a graphic designer and I'm looking for work right now. I've come across companies that I'd really like to work for, but they don't say anything about hiring. I want to send them my resume but I really don't know how I should go about it. I know I need to send some kind of cover letter, but I don't know what I should write. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What is the etiquette on this issue? We have a pretty open business relationship and I think he would like to know, but then again should he know? If i don't end up taking that other job, will that hurt where I stand? OR will this be a good thing so that we can possibly negotiate some things that I am not happy with in my current job? Maybe I should interview first, and find out if I will even get the job, then talk to him....help!

Just either excited or nervous or whatever but I have three quality phone interviews with a company and now will be going there (August by the way not the time for setting up in-person interviews). Phone interviews went well and salary was discussed. Just trying to gauge things now. One friend says at this point the in-person is more formality to check me out, etc., and make sure I'm not a complete loser or whatever. Just wondering your thoughts?

My job is so boring and I get all my work done within the first 2 hours of work and thats when I work at a snail's pace. I have minimal supervision (my bosses stay in their offices with the doors shut or are never here). I don't want to surf the net all day, play games or read books/magazine. Just some simple things I can do at my desk that aren't overly obvious and waste minutes, hours or even the whole day even. Even weird suggestions are great!

I have a full time secretarial/personal assistant job that i loathe. I absolutely hate coming to work. My boss is a total b***h. I have applied for another really good job with the city and I'm waiting to hear back. The thing is they say the application and interviewing process takes 60 days. Frankly, I can't wait that long. should I grit my teeth and stay where I am, or find another job in the meantime and work there until I hear about the city job. I don't like going to a job for a few weeks and then leaving for another, but I'm at my wits end and I can't afford not to have a job at all.

Hi! I'm a stay at home mother of two, a 10 1/2 yr. old and a 2 1/2 yr. old. I'm going to be home schooling my son this year and I've been looking for a work at home job that will actually bring in a significant amount of money without my having to shell out any money to get started. We can't afford that right now. So if anyone knows of or is actually working with a company that fits this criteria, please let me know everything that you can tell me about it. Thank you so much.

I am an accounts assistant in a small accountant firm. I started this job in the beginning of August. I feel that I am very good at this job and I am anbitous to study futher. But Today when I am opening my boss's letters, I saw one guy applied with C.V. to my position, saying that he saw the advertisment of vacancy on 15th August newspaper. As I know, the guy who took this job before me has been working here for three months. and there is only one person doing my job before me. I am so upset and doubt whether my boss wanna sack me or not. What should I do? ask him are you going to find someone to replace me? aren't you not satifact with my work? or what?

I need an excuse to stay home from work today. It has to be something believable and I need it quick! It can't be something that will be a problem tomorrow though (1 day issue). Oh and it has to be something a female can use (my boss won't believe that I got kicked in the nuts and now I'm pissing blood - I'm not a guy!). By the way, I work at McDonald's and I've only been working there for like a month.
