No, don't hide your degree. Use your degree and knowledge of a second language to enhance your career choice. File an application with the Employment Commission in your area, talk with people you know about where they work, check the local newspapers and the internet (monster.com). You could also seek work through a head hunter who will help you find a position. Visit your local college or university and inquire about positions. There are also temporary agencies specific to engineering. Some of their positions work into full-time.

Maybe you will have to take a job that you are over qualified for.Bank teller, warehouse etc.
Many towns offer free or low cost classes in English as a second language. This will help you a lot.
Keep trying maybe another bank....
Many foreign degree's aren't accepted here in the States. You may have to go back to school for that as well.
Any locals of your nationality close by? Maybe they can help.

Go to a temp firm. Make sure you are up to speed with the basic skills such as MS Office Suite. Take temp assignments only for about 18 months. You will be amazed at how marketable you become. PS. Show up to work, don't take too much advantage of days away from the office.

Use your qualifications as an asset for interest in an entry level position to qualfiy you for future postions in the field.Let them see you have the degrees but want to learn the field from thew ground up to educate yourself fully for growth in their company.
They see over qualified ppl as a short term liability because of training time, benifts and so on......and then you may just up and leave for a higjer paying position else where!Let them know you are looking for a career with them and you have the quality skills and education that will benefit their company and you. Also let them know you will be looking for chances for advancement in their company over time!
