I got laid off of my first job out of college (worked there for 4 years) at the end of May, I found a sales job in the middle of July and as of today I quit b/c it just wasn't working out. Should I not even bring this up on my resume or in interviews? Can companies run a background check and find out if I've had another job? What if I said I was temping the whole time or I went on vacation or something. How should I handle this situation the proper way?

Go ahead and list the job on an application if they ask for employment history. If you make it to the interview on your resume and they ask about last place worked, let them know.

be honest but not too personal or in-depth.
Something along the lines of, "the position was not a good match for my career goals" or some such is fine and lets you expand on your career goals and desires possibly.

"I didn't liek the &$(%&)( that I was working with/for" is NOT an appropriate reply.

Don't lie on a resume or application but don't disclose more than they ask for either.

If you had a job for only one month, you might bring this up in interviews/resume.

It depends on what you got out of it.

....like if it was the only job where you were trained to work the cash register, and you're applying for a job where that skill is necessary.

If they bring it up just tell them you didn't put it on your resume because it was just a temporary job to make a little extra money.
You put down on your resume something like various temporary jobs without giving details.
