Don't panic, as he probably purchased the ad for four weeks and it is still running because it has a week or two left. He could also be considering hiring another person as he hired someone three months earlier that didn't work out, or did that person work out and there are now two of you? Your question was not clear. You could ask him point blank, but I would just ask him in a casual manner on how he thinks you are doing, or you could just tell him you saw the ad running again and was he thinking about hiring another person. He will have to tell you something, but, he could ask you, why were you looking in the employment section, when you just started with him. It is a strange situation, so my advice would be to ask him what he thinks about your performance so far, and if he could tell you anything you need to be doing that you aren't, in order to do a better job.

It seems highly unlikely that your boss would invest in paying for your education if he was going to fire you. It could be that this CV was a late response to an ad, or your boss might need another assistant. For now, keep working conscientiously and listen carefully to those around you. Maybe you will pick up a clue. Try not to be paranoid, however, or others might pick up on it. If you are still truly afraid, you could start perusing the paper yourself and thinking about what other job you might apply for (don't apply yet, though). That way, all your bases are covered.

The most mature and responsible way to handle this is to do what ALL new employees should do after about 30 days on any job - whether receptionist, pizza delivery, attorney, or CEO: ask your boss how you're doing.
Ask your boss for about 15 minutes of his time and tell him that it's been xxx days since you've started at ABC Corporation, and you'd like to know how he thinks you're performing. Tell him what you've accomplished in the last xxx days (e.g. I've completed my training with SusyQ, finished the orientation course, re-arranged files, completed xyz project, etc.). Tell him how much you're enjoying working for the company, and how helpful John Doe has been with getting you acclimated to your new environment, etc. Use specific examples, and be very clear.
Then, ask him for some feedback about your performance thusfar. Ask him if there's anything in particular you need to work on, and whether he's happy with your work product.
If I were you, I wouldn't dare mention that letter/resume you saw in the mail. If your typical duties include opening his mail, he knows that you saw it anyway. Do NOT say anything about it, just ask how you're doing.

I would definitely ask him as soon as you can. You got this job a little less than a month ago so it could just be the ad was not taken out of the paper yet. If he/she says they are going to find someone else to replace you give him maybe you haven't been there too long a weeks notice. You don't want to burn you britches. This should give some time to send out some resumes and go on interview with other employers. GOOD LUCK!

Make life what you can make by making bold steps. Se below.
I would like to share a business opportunity that allows you to make money from the confines and comfort of your home. It carries a minimum risk in terms of investment while promising a tidy sum in return.
Sounds interesting? Then please have a look and inform yourself further of the fantastic opportunity that is called the getaway club.
I discovered this only a few days ago and I have already received my first level payout! I intend to reinvest this and further payouts in the program to maximise returns.
Have a look here at the compensation plan and see how you can be paid for every one you sponsor into the program up to 5 (FIVE) levels!
The program sells itself and for a very low start up cost compared to the returns you stand to make I believe that every forward thinking person who wants an income stream to supplement what their regular jobs pay, should give this a go.
Satisfy your curiosity - examine the opportunity and I hope you decide to join and if you do please do so using this link - http://getawayclub.net/Jadau.
Whatever you decide I wish you continued success in all you lay your hands on.
Every blessing

Most companies take out an ad for weeks at a time and it's more than likely that the newspaper is just finishing out your boss' ad contract. And if you haven't done anything to get you fired you shouldn't have anything to worry about, so keep doing a good job for him/her and you will be OK.

Several possibilities; You could be on the way out. You could be getting promoted. The company may have expanded enough to require two people in that position. The advertisement in the paper could have run later than it was supposed to. Stay quiet for now, but keep your ears open, and see what is said.

Your parinoid-- don't panic... You have not done any thing wrong. Employers do things like run adds to test the market. He may also be hiring as an expansion to his business.. You know ---Nothing--- do not let this affect your job and I certainly hope you did not tell the other person...If you did violation of company trust...You never tell what is in the bosses mail...Slow down your brain is running crazy...I can see that you are very young and have very little experience in the business world... Good Luck

Just because someone has applied does not mean that you will be replaced at all. Keep up your good working contributions and wait and see what happens.
When i worked for a firm of accountants my employer would go through loads of recruiting stages. They are professionals and always expanding
Does not mean you will be going at all. If he has decided to let you go cos your no good....you would be gone. He wont be paying you to work if its not worth it to him

unless you know how the co. is expanding (if at all) you should stay quiet.
as you work for an accounts firm (like me!!) you shopuld go to the ACAS website where your fears of being sacked will be diminished.
The site will explain your rights as well as your employers so you know exactly when you can and can't be fired.
