More and more employers do background checks and will not hire you if they find something that does not add up. And if you've started the job, they will show you the curb. Working for large companies, I've seen people leave old jobs, be with us for a week or two, and then be shown the door with not severance because lies were found on resumes. Then they are in the position of having to explain why they are looking for a job without having a current job. That makes finding a job much harder.

The irony is that I think at least one of the people I know who was let go would have been fine witout the lie on the resume. He would have been hired anyway. But the lie was what did him in, not the lack of what he was stating he had.

I like to 'embellish' a little on my CV. You should really tailor your little additions to the job you're applying for and you should never tell them you can do something you have absolutely no idea how to do. Don't tell them you're a French speaking showjumper if the only French you know is how to ask for a ham sandwich and you've only ever seen a horse with a jockey on it's back!!
White lies are GOOD, total and utter crap is BAD ;)

Dont lie on a cv. Pad it out a bit maybe

but lets face it if you exagerate your skills then you will be found out if you cant do the job. then your out of a job all together

This world is full of bullsh1tters who lie everyday to make themselves look better.

You have to emulate them to some extent as in CV's or get left behind

I wouldn't lie on it cos i think i would be found out in the end, i've put my cv in for loads of jobs just lately, and perhaps if i did lie i might have been offered a vacancy,
but hey too honest for my own good......

I think most people would "stretch the truth" like somebody mentioned it earlier... Why not, it's not lying per se... I tend to do that I'd say i've done more than I've really done... I mean when you're starting sometimes you have no choice... it's either you or someone else. I wouldn't completely lie but yeah I'd definitely embellished the truth.

I had a really bad experience in a job for six months, so I say that I took a career break during that period.

I wouldnt lie as it comes back to haunt you. I try to make something i have done whether it be small or big, sound better/more important, than it actually was.
