I assume you've considered using personal skills such as giving clarinet lessons or baking wedding cakes.
The most common work-at-home job that doesn't require special skills or investment other than an internet connection and phone line is telemarketing.
If you have kids at home, especially home schooling, you might not be able to dedicate the time each day.
Also, many work-from-home situations have no hourly base. You get paid per appointment or per sale.
In the daytime, you should try B2B (business-to-business). This generally means lead generation or appointment setting.
Frankly, most people in this situation make only a part-time level income. You might average $10/hr for 6 hours per day. That's $1200 per month. Good enough?

What businesses are hiring in your area? What can you do for them from home?

You might try eBay listing and order fulfillment services.
To make this a business, find a local company that wants to branch out into online marketing.
The two problems are 1) it might not work and 2) it might work too well.
If the online sales become a significant portion of their revenue, they will bring it inhouse and hire someone fulltime.

Can you afford some investment, possibly with monthly payments on a credit card?
I know someone who purchased a high-speed scanner -- I believe it is Canon DR 9080C for roughly $10,000. I think the processing speed is faster than a page a second.
They convert paper documents into electronic images. This website explains the idea. http://ecoproinc.com/
Basically, they convert a file cabinet full of paper for $950. If the pages will automatically feed -- no staples, not crumpled -- this is about an hours work.

My son recently started breeding a popular show dog. He paid $2000 for the female and $1000 for the male. He expects to make $30,000 per year by selling the puppies.
Good luck,

I work for a new home based company that is 100% free and totally different. It's legitimate and not like anything else around. There is nothing to sell, no meetings, and all the tools are free. It's an honest company with good morals and we are trying to help everyone who wants to work at home and make some extra money. Again it's free so you have nothing to lose.
It is possible to work for an honest company, at home with no cost. No matter what people may say. Let me know if you want more info.

First, Never, I repeat, NEVER pay money to make money. Any program, 'job', etc that requires this is a scam! I am a full time student, a mother of an overactive toddler, and work only part-part time online, and earn at least $1500+ a month. You can check out my blog to see how much money I make, and how I make it by going to http://www.becomingdebtfree.net
