I have a Marriott Visa credit card, but no longer use it and don't want to pay the $30 annual fee. But I don't want to cancel it either, as it will lower my credit score. They said I can switch it to a card that doesn't have an annual fee. Will that effect my credit score the same as if I cancel it? Or if I just switch to another card, will it not effect my score at all? Thanks!

In the mail I recently got a letter stating that I could buy items at low, low prices. Many items at 25%-30% off. But the thing is that most of the items listed are high priced items such as laptops, HD TVs, gold jewelry, etc.

They accept credit card or money orders.
Do scam/con-artist accept money orders or credit card? I qwas thinking scammers wouldn't accept money order as to it will leave a paper trail. I may be wrong what do you think?

What's the best way to protect ourselves against bad tenants? If we get a really bad tenant (and please don't reply with "don't rent to bad tenants," although I admit screening is a big part of the process). However, if you do get into a situation with a bad tenant and they just sit in your property for several months not paying rent while you take the "proper" route through the municipal court system and Sheriff's Office, how are we expected to pay the mortgage? Does anyone make tenants sign waivers stating that we can change the locks in order to move them out within "x" number of days after they haven't paid rent? Does anyone have some strong suggestions to protect themselves to the fullest extent?

I have an 80 year old relative with less then 100K in a variable annuity. Its basis is probably about 25K meaning there is about 75K in appreciation over a 20 year period. My relative will not need this money before death other then the small amount of interest it throws off monthly. This relative also wouldnt want to take a current distribution of this money because it would disturb an income based prescription drug benefit. The main concern is the tax liability to the heirs. What are some good strategies to avoid the taxation?

My father's health insurance runs through Cigna and his company covers people through the age of 25 if they are full-time students. They only ask to see verification of your course schedule. Last year I faxed the coordinator my schedule and was approved but I dropped the courses. This year I plan on taking a full-time fall/winter term schedule but they need verification by tomorrow. Can I lie and give them my proposed schedule or does that cause harsh penalties?

I use TD Ameritrade and I currently have a short position of a particular stock. I tried to short more yesterday and was told by TDAM that there were no shares available to short.

I'm wondering if this is a problem just with TD Ameritrade and their access to shares/liquidty or if this is somethign that I would have encountered across the industry in general yesterday.

I ask because if this is just a problem for TDAM and I could have better access to this type of transaction through a different broker then I will definitley explore changing brokers. I have been happy with TDAM up to this point though so if this was just a problem yesterday in the market in general then I would stick with TDAM.
I just don't know the mechanics of how TD handles shorting, is it just that TD didnt have access to borrow the shares to short and maybe another broker would have? The stock I was trying to short is EWZ and there is a TON of liquidity/volume in the market yesterday. Thx for any help.

My position has vastly changed over the past 10 years with added responsibilities and technology knowledge needed to carry out the position. How do I write a letter to HR requesting a position title change and salary upgrade? What things should I include in the letter to justify this? My Job Description was written in the 80's.

I was hired in as a temp along with a another. We're both pretty young (early 20's) and lately the other temp has been screwing up a lot (turning in reports done wrong). When the reports come back wrong she tells management she didn't do them and management comes to me and I get reprimanded. She also defaced and wrote grafitti on some of the pictures that are hanging up in our office while I was on lunch break. When I came back from lunch she left for hers and management came into the office and I got a huge reprimand for it even though I tried to explain that I had no idea what was going on. One of the VP's has been hinting around lately that at the end of our temp work they're going to hire me on permanently, but I'm afraid these little problems that the other temp is causing are going to persuade the VP not to hire me at all. My question is should I pre-emptively approach my boss about these issues or not bring any attention to it at all?

I made the wrong decision to refinance about a year ago in to a 5 year adjustable. I wanted to get out of it but when I told the lender I wanted to cancel the deal she assured me that it was a good loan and that I would be able to refinance again when the rates go down and my credit is better. Now since the market is the way it is. I'm worried that I will not be able to refinance and I may lose my home. My credit score is between 640-650 and since the market has went down I don't think I have very much equity if any. Am I doomed??

what i mean is a comfy chair with the arms rests adapted to accomodate the functions usual to your keyboard a-la captain kirks command chair.
as computers and tv merge...i for one am going to want to be seated comfortably and have all i need at my fingertips when i want to engage with my tv/computer.......i dont want to look for the remote -i want it built into my chair.....i dont want to mess about with a keyboard on the floor -i want a swing out one built into my chair.
if they arent available already...arent people bound to want something like this when computers and tvs merge together?....youre no longer going to want to be sitting with your nose right up to a small 14 inch computer screen...youre going to want to sit back comfortably in your comfy sofa chair, watching your big flat screen tv...and your going to want the keybors etc built into the chair you sitting in to watch that screen.
am i right or am i right!

I had surgery due to an accident a couple of years ago. My bill is over 100,000.00. I have no insurance. I applied for financial aid, but the hospital won't approve aid until I get everyone that I live with income level. They tell me that any roommates income counts as part of my income. My roommates don't want to disclose their finances to the hospital so the hospital has put my bill in collections. I have been making payment each month. But I only have social security disabilty which doesn't go that far. I have worked out other plans with other medical services. But the hospital says they won't do anything to help me out until I get them the infor they requested.
