Hello,

I am starting university in approximately 1 week and I currently have ~$20k saved up ($10k from working and $10k from an educations savings fund). I am looking to invest $10k of this for approx 2 years. $10k should be enough to get me through the first two years of university as I have been given a scholarship covering most of the tuition costs and I will be living at home during this time without rent. Also I will probably make over $3k during my summer vacation between the first and second year so money putting away $10k is a wise choice imo. I would be very appreciative of your opinions on how I should invest this.

Thank you,
Matt.

The property is financed through a private party, not a bank or mortgage co. Can you get a home equity loan to fix it up? Or a home improvement loan? even though there is a lien on the property?

Why would anyone use these cards? (unless, I suppose, they already have a visa or master card)

The reason I ask is because I was driving the around the other day and really started to notice that more and more people drive very nice cars, many of them people whom I know are not living within their means as it has been shown that most Americans don't. You all know what has happened to the mortgage industry lately right? They basically gave loans to people who really shouldn't have qualified, many of them involving very nice houses. When many of these people couldn't pay for the homes, it caused the economic blow we're seeing right now. Now they say that in the future it may be much harder to get a home loan.

Given all this, here's my question: Do you think the same thing may happen with the auto industry? And soon?

I have a few creidt cards I stopped paying on around January 2005. Some have posted to my credit report (Charged Off) and some have $0 balance and some still have balances posted and 1 is with Arrow Collection Agency. Should I call the companies directly that still have balances posted and try to work out a payment schedule with them or is this opening a can of worms? Also should I call the collection agency and do the same? I havent heard from any of these companies by mail or by phone for close to 2 years. Thanks

In June, I got involved with a debt settlement company that has caused me nothing but trouble. I got my money back from them, but my two bank of america accounts were sent to arbitration. I am having trouble getting a loan to pay off the accounts because of the 30 days past due notice on my credit report for those accounts. Even with a co-signer with perfect credit, we have ran into various problems, such as living in different cities. My parents said to contact a lawyer and they would be able to set up payments for me, but I am wondering what that will do to my credit.

Thanks!

I'm planning to start renting an apartment in Massachusetts in the next couple of months. I am a first time renter and I was wondering what the additional costs would be above the cost of rent. Costs such as electricity, gas, water, cable, apartment/condo fees, etc.

If anyone is renting and could give me a breakdown of their costs, or even just let me know what additional costs I can expect, that would be great. Thank you.

I plan on renting a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment if that helps.

We've had other realtors show our house, but not OUR realtor. If she's selling houses, then that means she's neglecting ours. Is there a way to track her sales through public record or something?

For about a month, my friend has been watching my baby for 30 hours a week. I pay her around $325.00 each week. We haven't been keeping track or receipts and I have recently learned of a daycare refund on the annual taxes. Can I qualify for this refund? (forgive me,, when it comes to taxes.. i am hopeless). What do I need to do to ensure this refund? Are handwritten receipts on her behalf eligible? What must she do on her end? Thanks!

Well this may sound like a long shot, but I just recently bought my son a 2000 Ford Mustang, Now its insurance time, hes 18, gets A's in school and has had drivers ed. Why do the quotes from Progressive and esurance estimate its going to cost nearly $500 a month, even with a 1990 honda junker it still cost nearly $400 do these prices seem reasonable, i cant recall them being that high, when i first got insurance, thanks.

When looking for stocks to invest in, why would you want to buy stocks with a high P/E ratio? A low P/E ratio means a company charges less for shares and earns more per share than, say, a company with a high P/E ratio. Why would you be attracted to companes with high P/E's, doesn't that mean you pay an arm and a leg for shares that dont make as much?
