I was hired to be the salaried office manager of a small, busy construction office in Chicago, IL. I have also become the HR director, the receptionist and at the moment, the accountant. One of the guys in the office is dumping a lot of work on me which severely limits my capacity to tend to my original and additional duties. I don't have time for breaks and barely have time for lunch. The boss said I have to help him. This guy yells at me, swears at me and constantly belittles me. He also yells at everyone else in the office, telling them what their job is and how to do it. I complained to the boss and the guy stopped swearing at me, but that's all that's stopped. I have been bringing work home nights and weekends, yet I get yelled at for not getting all the work done and have to deal with upset customers and coworkers because I don't have time to do anything for them. I have 3 kids at home and I'm having a hard time finding another job that pays decent. What can I do?

I have five children. My husband and I had one and he and his ex had four; they all live with us. I have always thought of these children as my own because their mother floats in and out of their life. I recently purchased a life insurance policy on myself and have listed my spouse and my children as the beneficiaries, my husband getting 50% to pay off the mortgage and debts and then each child gets 10%. But I am wondering if I've made a good decision. I worry if something unfortunate did happen to both my husband and I that the kids mother would just blow all the money. I got this policy for peace of mind to make sure that they wouldn't have to worry about the mortgage and college and all those things but should I leave more for my biological son then my step children? I don't like to think of them separately as I said, they are all my children. I just want to do what's right by them. Please don't be rude or a smart ***... I really just would like to hear other peoples opinions.

I am currently involved in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit. I recieved a promotion at my ex-employers and was subsequently dismissed (by someone who told me they were my boss, not the CEO of the corporation (the CEO that hired me) within 4 weeks of the promotion. My dismissal was also excused with the adage: this is was on a trial basis'. I have worked for the company for over a year and filed no 'new position' paperwork indicating I was in a 'new job'. My case also has several other strong points behind it, which I will not get into, but I have been told by lawyers already it is rock solid. What I need to know is that, does the '90 day trial period' law that allows summary dismissal for a new hire, apply to a 'promotion' within the same company? I've never heard of this being practiced before but I want to find out as much as possible before paying a lawyers consultation fee. Any help is appreciated. Thank you,

I work for a fairly large company and my superior is extremely messy. He is constantly losing things and always has huge piles of paper all over his office - on the desk, the floor, the chairs...everywhere. Unfortunately, doing my job well depends on being able to find specific documents quickly and efficiently, something I cannot do because of his disorganization. His superiors don't seem to notice and, if they have said anything to him, I can't see they he has made any improvements. If anything, the matter just keeps getting worse. This situation has gotten to the point that I dread going in to work (even though I love my job). What should I do? Do I keep my mouth shut and put up with it? Talk to his superiors? Look for a new job? My patience is running thin.

Since Life insurance premiums are not tax deductible I was wondering if Critical Illness premiums are tax deductible. I think that these premiums should be considered as a medical expense.

We got an incredible buy on a house (it was a foreclosure.) We have invested some time and "sweat" in it, and now we are going to sell it. We want to sell it at the appraised value so we can make a profit. My brother really likes the house and wants to buy it, but he only wants to pay what we paid for it...he says he doesn't believe family should make a profit from family. I love my brother, but we would be giving up a profit of about $100,000 if we sell it to him for what we paid for it, versus what we can get for it on the market. We did buy it planning on making a profit when we resold it, as an investment. He thinks we are being terrible about this, but I know he would not give up that kind of money for us. This has become a very tense issue between us, and he will probably never speak to me again if I sell the house to someone else.

OK, the house payment on our rental is $850, we charge $950 to cover expenses.
We got a call last week that the AC went out so we sent someone to fix it. They just said they had no idea why it stopped. It cost $140, so we actually lost money this month.Well, our renter came by to drop off the rent and she brought the reciept for us.

After she left I was looking it over and the WHOLE REASON the AC stopped working was because the renter changed out the thermostat without our permission and had it improperly wired.
So what do we do. Obviously we are paying this month, but my husband and I are wondering if we need to address this since A) it was without our permission and B) it cost us $140. Not ask them for the money or anything, just maybe address that any electrical work or changes to the property should be met with our approval?

These people are super nice, but I am really [irked] right now

I currently have an office job and I don't like it. I have a degree in Baking/Pastry and am a freelance wedding cake designer. was offered an AMAZING pastry cook position at a very reputable wedding facility. The exec. chef told me that I would bake and plate desserts, but if I didn't like it, I could solely bake or plate. Also, he would find me another job at one of their other facilties if I didn't like this one. I could also help make their wedding cakes.
The problem is that he said that the pay is probably around $10.50/hour. I honestly can't afford take a job lower than $15.00/hour. But it's such a great opportunity! Is there something I can do? Are there any places or jobs I can get in NJ like this that would actually pay a decent amount?
Thanks for your help!
