I need Professional References but my current jobs' HR manger is telling people that if they answer they can be fired. I have no contact with former co-workers so I need to know if the HR manger can do this and if so what can I do to get around it.

I work for a new home builder. We are offering incentives for buyers who close with our preferred lender. I have found that a lot of our buyers will choose not to purchase from us because of the simple fact that they trust their outside lender over ours (rates and monthly mortgage may be lower). I have addressed this issue with my boss and he has asked me to present a proposal on "how this would worK?" If the buyer closes with our lender we will pay for their closing costs...if they use an outside lender they are responsible for their closing costs. Any ideas on how to structure a convincing proposal??

I recently made the mistake of bouncing a check. The company resubmitted the check for payment and it went through. Today I looked at my account online and saw that the company had submitted a "check" for twenty five dollars. This "check" was not a check written by me but a check with my name and the check number of the original check that bounced and the comnpany's name. I never authorized the check for twenty five dolars, is this legal?

Most articles I found on the net suggest to focus on the long term performance (>=5 yrs) when picking mutual funds. I wonder why isn't it good idea to always maintain the top 10 funds over the 12 months in my porfolio ? Let say Fund ABC has returns of 10%, 10%, 20%, 10%, 50% in past 5 years (20% annually) and Fund XYZ which has 25% annual return for 5 yrs period but only 10% return last year

My arguments are

1) Good performance in the past 5 yrs does not mean the fund will continue for the next 5 yrs, and

2) Funds that have been on the top 10 in last 6-12 mths are likely to continue to provide good return for the next 6-12 mths. Fund ABC will likely to have 30%-40% next year. Even if it doesn't, if I pick top 10 funds with such returns, their average return for next year will likely be in that range

If I keep updating my porfolio every year for 5 years, my return will be 30-40% annually. If I invest in fund XYZ my return will stay at 25%).

So why not?

I've been attending CC for 3 years now and still haven't decided on what major to venture in, it's getting tiring and sometimes it's depressing not knowing what to do in the future. Do you think it's gonna be a better idea if I take a break off from school for the mean time and look for a job?

Married couple recently audited (in the IRS office) for 2004. In 2004 we had a tax preparer do our personal taxes who is now being investigated for tax fraud. We had received a large refund of $9000, but now we owe $10000 because of his mistakes/fraud. Can we make an offer or do we just have to set up payments for the full amount?
