I just found that that when you gift stock, the person receiving the stock inherits your cost basis. My parents have a substantial capital loss carryover from the .com boom and I wanted to obtain the advice of someone who understands tax laws fairly well to see if the following scenario would work.

1. I gift my dad $12,000 (or whatever the limit is for the gift tax exclusion) worth of stock. My cost basis on the stock is $6,000 so he will have a capital gain of $6,000.

2. My dad sells the stocks, but because of his capital loss carryover he does not have to pay any capital gains tax.

3. My dad gifts my wife $12,000 in cash.

Is there any issue with this? Or, a better question is do you think the IRS would have an issue with this?

I'm about to buy some books on amazon.com, and if I sign up for an amazon.com credit card, I could get $30 off my purchase. Is it worth it? I already use a Discover card now, and I have a few other credit cards as well that I don't use. Would it be bad for my credit to open up a new one?

Alright so i went to the hosipital they did some test and found NOTHING....gave me vicodiin called it good. Anyways i have a hospital bill thats $700 now i know thats not a lot but right now it is for me. I just got put on seasonal unemployment and make only enough to pay my rent and BARELY scrap by on bills....now i know you can work with creditors to pay a montly amount but your just raking up the interest and just paying WAY more. Is there any kind of paper work you can file other than bankruptsy since its such a small amount? Hate to see my credit slowly getting ruined for some very small bill.

Ive just moved to a new area and im trying to open a checking account. I know that Banks use chexsystems to find out if that person has a good or bad banking history and if they currently have an open account with another bank. My situation is that ive had multiple checking accounts over the years of which 3 of them got overdrafted and charged off. Now ive paid off everything i owe these banks but im having trouble opening a new account. Any advice? anything i can do to help. or am i just screwed never to be able to open up a checking account again? im told that chex systems is like your credit report and information on it can stay on there for 7 years or longer. I NEED ADVICE FROM A BANKER or someone who has experienced this same thing

I have been arrested once for failure to appear in court to answer because I had to work .I work in healthcare so leaving patients unattended would have gotten me fired. I want to be truthful to parents who ask , will this hurt my chances of being a succsessful daycare owner? Do I need to disclose this infor in the first place? Will this show ono a background check. I have always had to have a background check and none of my employers faulted me for this, but will it be different for child care?

I have many ideas for new products but don't know where to go with them from here. I am just wanting suggestions as to where I could find out more info on what to do now. I don't want my ideas ripped off, but believe patenting is rather expensive.

My job.....when I think of it ..it makes me cringe...I am a nurse. I thought after I graduated college I would at least get "SOME" respect. Boy was I wrong. I have went to work at a doctors office. Thought that would be easy...THINK AGAIN....My office is kinda like an urgent care center even though its a regular doctors office environment. My doctor has a main office and a satellite office. I work out of the satellite office. He comes three times a week after he sees his other patients. I end up staying there until 9 and sometimes later on those nights. I am a single mom. I am basically all alone with my child. I have some help but not much. This office is SO chaotic its crazy. I am the nurse, the lab girl, file clerk, insurance, referral person etc etc etc. I am so bombarded with work its not even funny. I am already on burnout and its only my 7 th week on this job. I left a job to come to this one. If I ever ask for help the answer is bluntly NO...what do I do.
