Ive just moved to a new area and im trying to open a checking account. I know that Banks use chexsystems to find out if that person has a good or bad banking history and if they currently have an open account with another bank. My situation is that ive had multiple checking accounts over the years of which 3 of them got overdrafted and charged off. Now ive paid off everything i owe these banks but im having trouble opening a new account. Any advice? anything i can do to help. or am i just screwed never to be able to open up a checking account again? im told that chex systems is like your credit report and information on it can stay on there for 7 years or longer. I NEED ADVICE FROM A BANKER or someone who has experienced this same thing

I've worked in a branch opening up accounts, and I really want to say it depends on the person opening the account. Where I worked, if you could prove that the debt has been paid off (letter from them or something), then usually we'd open an account and just not offer a debit card. If the account remained in goodstanding for a certain period of time, then we'd issue a debit card. Someone would monitor the account and at the first sign of trouble, we'd have a right to close it.

Try to find banks that don't use Checksystemd or check credit reports. Checksystem is suppose to remove it after 5 years.

Some Banks offer Second Chance checking account.
U.S. bank offers this.

Key bank offer a debit card only account. (This card does not have a Visa or MasterCard symbol on it). Pin purchase only. You get unlimited pin transactions. If you do this for a year. They may upgrade you to a free checking account. As long you do not get overdrawn. The fee is a percentage of each deposit.
