this woman worked hard to make me a social outcast at my new job. she's popular and picks her friends and enemies on first sight. as luck would have it, in a draw, i'm her secret santa, i have to give her something ($20 max recommended by the office) I want to do this with a gift thats innocent to others and get gives her a subtle yet nasty message. any innovative suggestions?

thanx all for the answers. most said to be nice. i've tried to make nice and she came up with the theory that i'm sucking up to her to be 'best' friends with her and that she never will thro nasty e-mails and loud remarks in the ladies room. she'll know i'm her secret santa as we have to reveal ourselves when we give the gift. i'm a little weirded out now. i was considering the switching idea. it mite be too late now though and make it obvious too.. aargh.
how about a baby cactus?

maybe a gospel cd or one of those books that people use to get others to do things. in this case u want her to say something nice to someone she don't like one day and on another day maybe increase the percentage of tips she normally leaves for the waitress. u get my drift here?

You said she's popular so obviously the problem is between the two of you only. It doesn't take a master detective to learn who was a secret santa, simple deduction and elimination. If you act like a jerk and buy a crappy gift, you will get even lower on the totem pole and will lose respect of anyone who did like you. If, on the other hand, you choose a particularly good gift, you come up roses. You can never be wrong doing what's right!! Why on earth would you choose this wonderful season to do something nasty ?! Maybe this is a "sign" for you to make the first step towards becoming friends. Act like an adult, grow up, and buy a gift in the spirit of the season.

believe it or not I drew the name of someone at work that I don't get along with at all. I did the right thing and bought a nice gift. I even spent a little over the limit. Just to show her I'm the better person. Others will see what you have done if you buy her a nasty gift. That will not go good for you. Suck it up and do the right thing.

I have to agree with the nice gift idea, but I think you might consider how the gift can work as a positive influence for you. Perhaps she's married and her husband is an electronics nut. You could get her a universal remote that could end up being her husband's. He might appreciate it vocally and how could that not strike a cord?
I'm not blatantly saying, "get a universal remote", but I think you can see where a useful, everyday use type of gift will be a subtle but constant reminder of your thoughtfulness and apt gift giving.

Any thing from bath and body works makes a nice gift. And also hints that she stinks. Very subtle. Or you could go with any of the "FOR DUMMIES' series of books if she has a particular weak point such as public speaking. Or simply go with a NAUGHTY OR NICE ornament from Hallmark. Perfect for when you are irritated enough to send the very best.

Hmmmmmm if she's an ugly woman i would buy a real nice make-up set and sAY something in the card like you wear the wrong colors maybe you should try these instead, if she smells I would buy her a really nice basket with body soaps and scrub Aand say something like i think these scents will compliment you better, maybe a book on how to deal with difficult people in the work place, a gift card to a massage place because she's so tense of a person........
now your making me think because i have to go to lunch with 3 women at my job, a pre-departmental XMAS lunch, who i've been trying to avoid like the plague and i'm dreading everyday that passes till I have to go.
GOOD LUCK, I HOPE MY SUGGESTIONS HELPED YA!

How about getting her something like biscuits or whatever, and try adding laxative to them - Used to do it all the time to people when in college and was so much fun, even funnier a couple hours later :)
Serious note, read the instructions and don't put too much in or she'll be spending some time in hospital or the doctors - which is a bit too harsh really, it is Christmas after all!

You could get a gift card to one of those stores for larger women? Like Lane Bryant or something. But I would suggest not to be too mean about it, you don't want everyone else in the office to think you are a vindictive mean person. You could always get her something that might suggest she smells bad, or a book about proper etiquette?

Think how sweet the revenge would be to rise above her and be classy and just give her something she likes? it would drive her nutz trying to figure what the he--ll is happin'ing?? people like her always have an agenda and when yu throw a wrench in it it drives them nutz when stuff dont go their way?? plus it would give yu a step up in the social strata of the office politics?

Find out something that made her embarrassed by other workers, then give her something to remind her of that incident. Like, if one day she had to, say, refill the coffee machine, and she spilled it and made that stain on the carpet, get her a few cans of Folgers.
