If the child entered into a contract with a credit card as a minor and there was no need for your signature, then no. Legally, if a minor enters into a contractual agreement of any sort, then the minor has a right to terminate the contract making it null and void. With that attitude, if you are not a co-signer, then the contract with the credit card company is null and void at date of the minor's death. Contracts can never be enforced with minors. no one is accountable for anybody's debt except that person. When that person dies there's nothing more they can do to collect that becuase the person is now deceased. Send a mass card with the bill showing he passed on.

Being that credit card debt isn't "secured" if the person holding the debt died I'm not certain that anyone is liable for it, estate or otherwise.
