Instead of instantly buying whatever you can afford w/ your first check, look for ahead. Look for something that you HAVE to save your money for such as a whole new wardrobe for school next year, this way you learn self control and when summer comes around you can feel proud for buying your own clothes and school supplies. Every time you get paid put half aside for your new goal the other half divide it up into what you need such as how much money will you need for lunch, school, necessities and then what's left over can be spending money. If you really don't need anything then put 80% of what you get paid into a savings account and the rest can be yours. Think slowly and rationally. When purchasing items, instead of thinking that yeah that would look cute on me, w/o picking the item up, think to yourself, why am I buying this, is it by impulse, is it because so and so has it, do I want it or need it, is it productive, can I use it over and over, can I find the same thing but cheaper?

You are very wise to realize already that you have a hard time keeping money. That is half the battle. Get a jar and put some of the money, how about half, in it. At the end of the month take the money to the bank and deposit it in a savings account. The rest of the money you can spend on you - everyone that works should have some spending money. Your a very smart girl.

Deposit the money (or at least 50% of it) in a savings account with a passbook. No ATM card!

Think about what your going to buy? Do you really need it? Do you already have three of them?

Think about something BIG you want & start saving for that. Put part of your money away towards that thing. Put a picture of it up or have a notebook with its picture on the front and the money you've saved recorded inside along with your goal.

Ask your parents to open a bank account for you and deposit at least half of your money in it and the rest you can use as spending money, this way you can spend and save at the same time.

Well.. you are in an interesting situation. You have no rent to pay.. food is always available free of charge... why would you want to not spend your money?

I say live it up while you are still young! I know its against anything you will hear "Save your money!!!". But at this point in your life.. hey blow it all!

Just my two cents.

Put your money into a savings bank account and then u don't have to worry about spending it because you won't have it on you to spend it.

nice problem to have. most people probably have similar stories. I'd be a lot richer if i knew then what i know now about money. if you realize there is a problem, then you can work to change your behavior.
