Obviously some careers were more important than others. I imagine any luxury services, like hair salons, etc, were the first to go out of business. But even during hard financial times, there are still things that a family must buy! Help me come up with a good list of professions that would help a man sustain his family during the Great Depression of the 1930's. Thanks.

I was looking on a prepaid web site and it interested me, so i went forward to apply online. i was going through the step-by-step guide sorta thing and at the very end it said there were charges. a charge for the card and a monthly fee and something else. see, normanlly i look at the faq's, but there wasnt any (well if there were, then it must have been really, really small print). anyways, during the step by step application form, it said something about ID, it asked for either a driving licence or a passport(which i dont have), so on the form i ticked none. in the last step(where it told me about the charges). it said they will be writing to me and i will have to send ID. See i dont want to go through with it cos of the charges(would have know if i could have seen them faq's). if i dont send ID does that mean the account wont open, like just ignore. what should i do or what can i do ?????

I work at a grocery store and so many people come in there with like 6 kids, their nails done, and they are buying steak and icecream with food stamps! It makes me so mad because they don't have a job or are just having kids to get foodstamps! Im sick of my taxes going to people like that. How do you feel about it?

Hi
I am opening a small retail business. I need to get a point of sale system.
I noticed one at Sam's club, with Quick books and some hardware but no computer or monitor. Check it out at samsclub.com, item #999550. they're asking just under $1200. Is that a good deal? or should I keep looking?
part 2, If I got the sams club system could I run it off a lap top with an external keyboard and monitor, or touch screen monitor? I think I would like the option of unplugging the lap top so I could take it home on look at financials nad inventory after closing. Anything wrong with this train of thought?
Your opinions appreciated, thanks.

what does this mean???
employer matching contribution
One half of a participant's elective deferral amount up to 6% of eligible compensation that is deferred. The maximum matching contirbution, therefore is 3% of a participant's eligible compensation, Any deferrels over 6% of eligible compensation are not matched.

so does that mean I can put in 3% and the company will match it 3% as well to make a maximum of 6%????

or can I make a contribution of 6% and they will match that 6% making a total of 12%??

I will be working for a VP who is known for constantly changing travel arrangements, re-scheduling meetings several times and basically making everyone he interacts with schedule around his schedule. You know the type constantly has cell phone stuck to ear and schedules several things in one day (despite the fact you’ve told him). Any useful suggestion on how to manage this boss? Before you ask why.. it’s a big jump in pay for me.

Let's say I have 80K in adjustable gross income, and a capital gain of 200K from sale of a non-primary residence real-estate that we have owned for more than one year. The filing status is "married filing jointly."
Here is a link to the 2006 tax schedules:
http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=150856,00.html

Will I pay "$8,440.00 plus 25% of the amount over 61,300" for the 80K plus 15% of the 200K capital gain?

Or will I pay "$42,170.00 plus 33% of the amount over 188,450" for the entire $280K? So is the 15% capital gains tax an extra tax on the 200K?

I think I'm getting confused because I thought short term capital gains were taxed at a regular tax rate, but long term capital gains got the 5% or 15% tax rate. So how is the 15% applied in combination with the rest of my adustable gross income?

Thank you for any information that you can provide.

I heard that ALL Alaskan oil is sold overseas because its sulfur content is too high for EPA guidelines, so it is sold mostly to Japan.

If that is true, does that make the whole ANWR proposition a ruse?

Yes it will reduce your taxes by a little, but not nearly by how much you had to donate, am i right?
Say my income was 20,000, i donated 2,000, and if the rate was 25% my taxes, which normally would be 5,000, would become 4500. I have paid 2,000 to get 500 off. Why do people do tax deductible things?
