My husband is a deisel mechanic. He has years of experience. He was working for a rather large company making $16. an hour. They paid his health insurance. The job was like 45 minutes away. He got hired by a local company about a year ago so he quit the other place. With this company he makes $14 an hour but they withhold NO taxes. At the end of the year you get a 1090 and have to file your own. They have no benefits. No workman comp and they work outside sometimes as much as 60 to 65 hours a week. They are paid no over time what so ever. Now the boss is upset that trucks are breaking down on the road. They are saying they can no longer afford 3 mechanics so it is clear someone will be let go. My father is the other mechanic. My question is is it illeagel to not have workman comp? And is it illegal to not pay overtime to your employees? My husband broke his foot on the job and has bills from that. My main concern is the overtime though. Please help

He sits next to me. He talks at me all day long. Either very long involved stories that I'm just not interested in hearing or a succession of things like "read this", "what does that mean?", "what's this for?" "where's that?" It never stops. Now, he's a nice enough guy but I'm just sick to death of listening to him. How can I shut him up without being rude? I've tried all the regular approaches, but he seems unable to get the hint.

I'm not looking for a "get rich quick" scheme, just something to supplement our income. I was working as a P/T receptionist/admin asst. for 4 years, but quit a couple of months ago because the pay sucked and it just wasn't worth leaving my kids at home alone ( ages 17, 17 and 12). I had a promising career 17 years ago, but had to leave when twins were born prematurely. I have tons of office related skills - good phone manner, computer literate, customer service, etc., etc. I am also extremely responsible and motivated.

I have checked into things offered on the internet, such as "paid surveys" and they all seem like scams. I also have lots of "work-at-home moms" sending me e-mails that all sound like scams - they want you to subscribe for a fee.

PLEASE, any positive suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in the SW suburbs of Chicago, if that helps. Maybe you have a good experience
