All your life. It is a passion to be able to put your thoughts and ideas on paper and then see them become reality.
The actual study in school is about six years. Then a few years as an apprentise, during which time you will want to get your masters degree. (If you really have exceptional talent then just a couple of years as an apprentise) If you want to teach then you will go on for your doctorate, another 3 or so years.
One of the best places to gain inspiration is from nature. Keep mindful of your surroundings and blend into them the thoughts and feelings of your creations.
Frank Lloyd Wright is in my mind the best human architech that ever lived. Study his buildings and you see the mind of the man behind the buildings.

Well that depends on several factors. The country you live in is one. If it is the USA, that typically takes 5 academic calendar years to complete, that is if you stay on schedule. Most schools have a 5 year program for such a program. This is just for the BS though, if you want to get a masters, add another two to three years and another two to three on top of that for a PhD.
