I live in NY and several months ago, the landlord chose to do some toxic work in my apt on a weekend and gave me no notice (less than 1 hour). I had guests flying into town who were supposed to stay with me - including my 3 year old niece. The work was not done before they arrived and we were forced to check into a hotel because of the fumes. I left messages with the landlord, but never heard back. When rent time came, I deducted the cost of the hotel from the rent and included all supporting documentation. They cashed the check and have since been billing me the amount I deducted. I have heard there is a law in NY that if a landlord cashes a check, that means they accept payment in full, but can not find it in writing. Can anyone direct me to that law?

Hello,
I have a visa card from a bank with no benefit since 2000. I have always paid my bills on time and have maintained a good history.

One of my friend suggested that I should get a card with 5% cash rewards from the same bank.

1. Would it affect my history if I get this new card and close the old one?

2. Would switching the old card with the new card from the same bank maintain my hard earned history? My current card says I am a member since 2000. If I switched my card, would this new card say the same or would it say that I am a new member?

Please advise.

I have absolutely no skills in an apple computer, i have always used a PC/Microsoft. I want to be a copywriter and so far my ads are done from copy and pasting images onto microsoft word to get my concept across. How can I made my portfolio look great without getting an apple computer and without upgrading my laptop, which barely has any memory left. Help please!

We are very small and just getting set-up on our own. We do wire shelving systems and some glass work. Can't use "Custom Clostes" or many other "cutsie" names. I am drawing a complete blank! Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have been working at Old Navy for about two weeeks now, but in three weeks I have to leave for school. It would be easier if I had told them in the beginning that I was moving, but I didn't. Do I give them a two weeks notice? Or do I just quit the last day I want to work? Help!

I have not had much luck selling furniture and computers I want to get rid of--tried Craigs and a bunch of other free lists. Someone suggested Ebay---any experience? And if you get someone to buy, how do you ship? Or do you restrict it to locals only?

I am due to leave the Navy after 9 years next May and I am fearful of not getting a job where I wont struggle. I am an Electronics Technician and worked on submarines, but I was in reality a communications equipment operator/technician. I have a high level security clearance also. However, when I have looked around for available jobs, they all are looking for someone very specific involved in a very specific job with years of experience. I am trainable, hard working and even currently working toward a degree but I do not know how well an employer would think I have potential for a good job. I dont even know where to look exactly. Anyone with previous experience or any thoughts that might help please respond.

When I worked at KMart, I had to ask every customer for their zip code. alot of them would get mean & rude & ask why I need it, Like I can get their personal info just from typing in a freakin' zip code! they also get mad if something doesn't ring up on sale that was advertised on sale, like I can help it. We're just doing our job people! lighten up!
