I've heard of a couple artists who painted on raw, unprimed canvas, or the backside of commercially primed canvases (the raw side). What are the differences between the two? Do certain painting processes work better on either primed or raw canvas?

I have a flat metal panel that I want to paint a scene on. It will remain indoors.
What is the best kind of paint to use?
I was going to use my acrylics, but I was afraid it would chip off after time.
Thanks!

The paint is not directly noticable because it is similar in color. But I can feel the roughness on the tank etc. And there are a few small drips on the leather seat that are very noticable. Aside from my seething anger and what I'd like to do to the guy, I'd just like to get the paint off if I can.
