thanks everyone- someone asked about david hockney etc...which yes i am interested in but basically i just want something i can refer to when i need to look for works. just some sort of list. thanks so much so far v helpful!

I'm not aware of an all-encompassing list although you can get close via the links I've posted below.
These will give you news on upcoming sales, put you in touch with some galleries specialising in 20th century art and advertises some British artists direct.

Try the Saatchi website. As well as listing contemporary artists. he also has a database of artists from 20th Century.
