Artistic oil is costly, so don't buy more colors then you really need. Buy all the basic colors then add others as you need them, one of my must haves is Naples yellow. But by a large tube of Flake White, you may find you need a lot if you do landscapes. A lot of my oil paint stock is still usable today after 25 years (my large tube of flake white cost me £1 19P UK more than 20 years ago) Art books will help, you can get them from second hand shops at low cost

What is important is the end product. Some works are meant to deteriorate (andrew goldworthy) while other are mean to last forever, some go dispite best efforts due to environmental reasons. Why are you concerned at this point? Sounds like you are being educated, and the purpose is to learn. Don't expect what you do now to have value much beyond the immediate. A great teacher once said, "Finish your painting, sign and date it, take it home then throw it away." There is some great folk, urban and street art made with house paint...so don't get too concerned or pay too much attention to those good-intentioned Sunday painters who think everything they do needs eternal preservation.

If you are serious about painting, invest in good paints and good brushes. The higher quality paints hold color better and will last through time. There are many colors that are more expensive than others due to the ingredients used for that particular color. Their value (to you) depends on how bad you need them.

Those Artistic Interiors paintings are decorative items and have no value as art. They are all painted in art "factories" in China by the thousands.
