You're obviously thinking of Pablo Picasso born in 1881 in Malaga, who lived most of his life in France.

Pablo Picasso- no doubt he was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century- his career spanned the three quarters of the century and covered a huge amount of political events. his ideas and work were inspirational for a huge variety of artists, writers and normal people- often quite controversial inclusing Guernica- a huge work hanging at the UN which was a reaction to the horrific attacks on the small Spanish town Guernica. I think he is the most influential artist of the twentieth century, he was spanish and he lived in france.

Oh I know you are looking for Pablo Picasso and I agree he was very prolific and most influencial but What history fails to recall is that he was an agressive self-promoter and took credit for other people's ideas. Cubism was Braque's extention of Cezanne's work and Picasso simply jumped on the bandwagon. The one who motivated Picasso the most was Matisse. Now there was an original!

there is no definite answer to this question - there are too many movements and styles to pinpoint one person as the most influential of them all. There are obvious answers, of course, such as Picasso, Dali et al, but what about the likes of Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst and Chris Ofili?
All of these artists have made headway into their individual genres. None can be named as the definitive artist.
