Most people use acrylic gesso, which can't not be used with oil paints. Gesso should be used first and when dry you can use oil paint. Never use gesso over oils, only under.

It would depend on the type of gesso. Most anymore are acrylic gessos and they work fine with acrylic paints for impasto work. You can try a little bit mixed together and spread on a bit of scrap canvas or cardboard and see how it dries.

Sounds like you are already doing that. and that's OK as long as the gesso is oil compatible...but there are many other thickeners that are better...beeswax for one. Check any art supply catalog for texture mediums.

i dont believe you can, you could mix it with water based paint,craft paint.....gesso isnt oil based so it would just seperate.

nope..try letting your oils sit out for a day before using them...squeeze out a good amount on your palette..and wait
