It will only take you a minute to read this short parable. So please do so and please let me know if the metaphors it tries to convey are exact enough, clear enough?

I'm asking because this is my first ever appempt to write a parable and I may have failed or may need to re-edit or re-write this stupid thing.

Here is the link to the Live Journal page:

And I thank all of you who respond here.

Alright, this has been a really hot topic in my Philosophy class and like I'm kinda lost, especially in going on, and listening to the class discussion

Okay, so GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING.

but, MEN have free choice.

so, God knows all our actions, all our plans, and all the stuff that we are going to do.

But He gave men FREE CHOICE, so like if He doesn't know what we are going to do because we have free choice, that doesn't necessarily mean that He knows everything...

Okay, so like let's say, there's a flower, and I would either step or not step on the flower, GOd knows my actions, but he has given me free will to either step or not to step on the flower...

How is it that God is omniscient
In class, we came up to like, God chooses NOT to know whether I will or not step on the flower, but He restricts his knowledge of knowing wheter I'll step or not step on the flower.

And if He knows everything, why did He let Hitler kill Jews, even though hes Benevolent?

A friend of mine and I are having a discussion about the word "ALL".

If I say ALL trees have green leaves .. does that mean that every single tree in the world has green leaves or does it mean that a vast majority of the trees have green leaves.

or

If I say "ALL Republicans are conservative" or "ALL Democrats are Liberal" does the word ALL cover each and every member or can it be utilized to include a statistical majority.

This is very important ... we have a $1 bet on the outcome.

Thanks

Two alternatives.

You can believe that a higher power snapped its' fingers 6000 years ago and everything came into being. Seemingly old things like fossils and the Grand Canyon were created to fool us. Pretty much all of science is wrong, a sure sign that it's evil.

Or, you can believe that a higher power created the Big Bang 13 billion years ago, just right, so as to miraculously form the Earth billions of years later. And that life was miraculously formed, first as very simple organisms, then, through evolution and many thousands of years, more complex ones. Eventually Man was created, to worship. Nothing in science disproves that.

Which story is more beautiful, more awesome? Is Science sin, or is it a God given way to better understand the marvel of creation?

The choice for this guy is easy:

"The mission of Reasons To Believe is to show that science and faith are, and always will be, allies, not enemies."

ok, so I'm an 8th grader this year and this is the second year I've had this teacher (it's a small school, so we have each teacher twice). but this year, it's hell. mainly because she seems to hate me for some reason. WHATEVER I do, she just looks at me with the angriest face I've seen in my life!
Let me explain that I'm not a loud student, nor am I one of those perky ones either. I am quiet, never disrespect anyone and never EVER have gotten in serious trouble... but I just don't know why she hates me!!
also, I have depression (but don't take counseling for it). When I'm happy in school, yeah, I talk to my friends during class, like any other regular kid, but she ALWAYS gets mad at ME (even if I'm the quietest of 'em all). So, if I try not to talk and isolate myself, depression will be worse.
also, she never pays attention at what I have to say...

what can I do?

In caring for others and serving heaven,
There is nothing like using restraint.
Restraint depends on giving up one's own ideas.
This depends on Virtue gathered in the past.
If there is a good store of Virtue, then nothing is impossible.
If nothing is impossible, then there are no limits.
If a man knows no limits, then he is fit to be a ruler.
The mother principle of ruling holds good for a long time.
This is called having deep roots and a firm foundation,
The Tao of long life and eternal vision.

what do you think this means?

As I see it the only possible way for one to justify a lie as being 'white' is if they have absolute knowledge of the situation (which is impossible) and if they can accurately predict the other person's response (which is dubious at best).

Most lies, even so-called 'white' lies are discovered in the long run and are most often much more painful at that time. Lying, even with the best of intentions, only adds to the pain and suffering of being a human and degrades the liar's self-esteem to boot.

Furhtermore the concept of 'white lies' is all too often used as a cover for telling selfish lies (ie - to justify telling a lie not to protect the other person but to prevent embarrassment on the part of the liar).

If you agree, why is this such a widespread phenomena?

If you don't, can you convince me that I'm wrong? (I'm listening but I don't want to be lied to)

Religions for the most part I believe, but if we had no religion who would determine it is wrong to kill somone, or commit necrophelia. Society determines most of this but society is based mostly on religion.
