Two alternatives.
You can believe that a higher power snapped its' fingers 6000 years ago and everything came into being. Seemingly old things like fossils and the Grand Canyon were created to fool us. Pretty much all of science is wrong, a sure sign that it's evil.
Or, you can believe that a higher power created the Big Bang 13 billion years ago, just right, so as to miraculously form the Earth billions of years later. And that life was miraculously formed, first as very simple organisms, then, through evolution and many thousands of years, more complex ones. Eventually Man was created, to worship. Nothing in science disproves that.
Which story is more beautiful, more awesome? Is Science sin, or is it a God given way to better understand the marvel of creation?
The choice for this guy is easy:

"The mission of Reasons To Believe is to show that science and faith are, and always will be, allies, not enemies."

Dana - You're absolutely right that the second alternative leaves much open. As a result it avoids much destructive conflict.
If you are a nonbeliever, and a supporter of science, it is much to your advantage if believers choose alternative 2. Then there are no conflicts about teaching science in schools. Note that, in the US, nonbelievers are a distinct minority, and thus at risk of the tyranny of the majority.
