What 5 actions indicate that one person loves another?

a few are " bad apples?" note: the Q is phrased hypothetically to avoid the necessity of U having to defend your personal views. The empasis is on the arguments for or against the idea

Examples illustrating the idea applied in fact, R the economic, trading, & technology transfer sanctions or restrictions placed on entire nations to get the gov'ts or the leaders to change course. Nations which have been sanctioned in this way: North Korea, Iraq under Sadaam & Slovenia under Milosovic, Libya under Qadafi. A nation currently under the unilateral sanctions by the US, Cuba under Fidel.

Pls do not digress into the specific examples unless they directly relate to the ethics(the morality) of collective punishment under the ethical theory of Utilitarianism. The theory says ethical actions should always be based on maximizing "the greatest good for the greatest number of people".
Only those philosophy-based A's focused on the issue of *collective punishment will be considered for BA.

Both are ways of thinking and yet the debate is whether or not we can use both at the same time, one without the other, or only one. Let me see your comments but only after you read the folowing
For example, there is a story that helps illustrate this.
There was a blind woman who was born blind. However at the age of 20 she had a special surgery in which she regained her sight. However, she had gone home on a certain path her entire life. She could not find her way by seeing so she blindfolded herself and went home that way because the darkness was all she knew.
The analogy is that her sight was reason, while the darkness was her faith. Both brought to her truth, and yet both showed her different views of the world. Neither was wrong.

Why do bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people?

Why do the good die young?

I have seen some young adults and teenagers who had promising futures ahead of them die before they really had a chance to live their lives.

In reading the classic "The Republic of Plato" this line really caught my eye. I am good with words, but have always been afraid of numbers. Now I am wondering if I missed something. And if a comprehension of geometry would help as I search for the "truth" of my life.

What's so wrong about not being in a sexual relationship?

I think its sad how most men cant be in a relationship without being sexually involved. i"m sorry but i'm just not that type of girl to give myself away like that. I dont understand. I feel like i"m going to be single for ever if that's the case. I'm 20 years old and i am losing hope in men. Ridiculous. I'm just tired of wasting my time on idiots.

I'm starting to wonder if this is really true. I stoped wondering the Religion and Spirituality boards some time ago because of all the crazy christians and bitter atheist. I wander back there every once in a while just to see what there is. Today i read a post of someone that was crying hystericaly because they told someone the holy spirit was evil, and later felt bad about it; felt so bad that he/she thought Jesus wouldn't forgive them so he/she was just going to kill themselves. Some time ago, I found a post from someone that hadn't slept for two weeks because she was worried she would be left behind after the rapture. I know it's nice to assume these are just pranks, but that isn't always safe to assume. I thought religion was suppose to smooth people and reassure them, not scare the hell out of them and worry them sick. What happened. I was a christian and no longer am. I was worried for some time till I realised the fears were irrational. What is so wrong?

in what real life situation do we use order

2007-09-05 09:58:32 · 6 answers · asked by curosity 3

For example, one girl last year decided that she didn't like me, and starting to do everything in her power to- well, be mean to me! Its not like there was any benifit in being mean, or that it would help her in any way...at least I think. But anyway, I try to be nice to everyone, though I have to say that i've been mean before. But there are people that seem like they're mean 24/7, its like, what they DO. And thats why i wanted to ask this question- Why are there mean people? Can they not help it? Do they enjoy it? Share your thoughts.

I dislike leaving things open...would rather settle amicably to enable me to move on peacefully. This holds true not only in cases of death, divorce, or the end of a serious relationship, but with everyone with whom we come into contact. Comments?

so god puts all these rules and if you dont follow them you get punished. but he even takes it a bit further and makes the worst rule to break is to deny him. isnt that a little egotistical. what are your comments.

african morality and their notion of evil

2007-09-05 08:21:58 · 1 answers · asked by prince 1

I'm not a complete newbie, I'm aware of a lot of the major philosophies and their ideaologies but it seems that every time I start reading about one thinker it just leads on to more movements and more important people & it just seems a bit too much to take (for example when I first got into Sartre, he made a reference to Heidegger which made me want to go find out more about him too, similarly when I looked into Marx I ended up studying Lenin and so on too...) basically I'm asking who are the most important people to read? I'm 15 so I'm not really that experienced in these matters, I just find it interesting, so sorry if this Q is silly...
