Good people often put themselves in harms ways trying to do good, where as bad people often think only of themselves never going out on a limb for themselves or anyone else.

Life is like a box of hand grenades; you never know when will blow you to sheol...lol Mario Puzo, author of the Godfather.
The classic for bad things good people is by a rabbi Kushner. His main premise (and it is a suberb book in innumerable ways) is: there IS a law of randominity which must be acknowledged and dealt with, i.e sometimes one is in the wrong place at the wrong time, sometimes cells 'switch' on and cancer(s) are formed, sometimes something does go wrong in the DNA sequence, etc.
DO the good die young? Anecdotally, we all know of a 'good person' who died young; but, do the good die young. Now, if you love philosophy - this is the question to ask: What constitutes the 'good' of youth or young adulthood.
How about the 3, 752 young men who have died in Iraq as of today? Is WAR ever justified? That is a question for the philosopher: One wrote at length that is most certainly is (hegel).
Jesus would say that good things happen to bad people; because the god of this world takes care of them, i.e offers immediate rewards.
But, a buddhist or hindu would say that it's one's karma.
So, there are many unanswered questions in our world and I am glad to see you asking some of them. Good investigating and journey to you.

You say you love philosophy (the pursuit and love of wisdom); are you familiar with determinism? Do you believe you and the young who die have free will. Most of the answers on here assumed randomness in the causes and out comes of life, but that may not be true. You or anybody else may not have free will. Look at the following evidence by a Nobel prize winning psychologist:
Benjamin Libet:"Mind Time" the temporal factor in consciousness.: Harvard Univ. Press, Cambridge Mass.,2004
In this book he describes the scientific experiments he undertook, which showed our will to act follows the unconscious impetus to act or do something so we may not have "Free Will"! Everything we do and that happens to us may be pre-determined by... (something?) He received the first Nobel Prize in psychology for this work in 2003.
So there may be a reason why the good die young and bad things happen to good people, we are just not privy to that reason.
Good ?luck?, good health, peace and love!

Doesn't seem fair, does it?
Hannah Sennesh, an Israeli heroine of the Haganah who was tortured and murdered during World War II fighting in Hungary, said it best...
"There are stars whose radiance is visible on Earth,
though they have long been extinct.
There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world,
though they are no longer among the living.
These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark.
They light the way for all mankind."
I like to think that it's all a part of G-d's master plan for humanity. Sadly, there have to be some bad things in our lives for us to truly appreciate and enjoy the good things.
Sometimes it's hard to take bad news like when someone dies "before their time". But it's also something we have to come to accept. Sure, easier said than done, huh? It is, but you'll get through it.
There is a process to grieving that we all must go through and sadly there's no other way to start the process than to just sit down and have a good cry. After awhile you'll stop crying and you'll go through more phases...
sadness - Why did this happen?
anger - That a**hole should have done something to prevent this!
blame - It was his own da*n fault!
understanding - I guess nothing could have been done to prevent this.
reasoning - I suppose no one would have known after all.
Finally "acceptance" and you will feel "right" again.
For some people this process can go quickly and for others it can take a very long time, but it does happen this way and things will get better. I promise. d=)

In the end you may find, that there is no "good" or "bad"--only truth. If one can get through life without harming anybody, then we say that this is good. However, it's pretty difficult for sensitive people to get through life unhindered. More oft than naught, it is there fragile souls which make the best art. I've often wondered just for what reason people like: Mozart, Chopin, and other musicians and artist do not live longer. Then I think of light bulbs. One notices, that the brightest bulbs seem to burn the shortest times---brighter so much more just before they go out. It's quite a question. I wish my answer could have been more helpful.

it variety of feels that we 'can't now be attentive to how this works' on the instant. besides the fact that, we are in a position to postulate 'that all of us be attentive to that this works a undeniable way from different comparable constructs.' Is it authentic that a working laptop or computing gadget makes use of its actual suggestions to contain classes that each might show completely distinctive 'personalities?' The actual hardware is mandatory for the innovations programmed to run their utility. Is it authentic that we've hardware, our brains, that over the years have been programmed and subtle? Our spirit - dominating character, attitudes, etc - have over the years been written into this hardware. it is our utility. as a effect the present configuration and contents of our suggestions make up our spirit, our suggestions, our personalities. those truly ought to via a greater robust intelligence be saved onto some 'tensechronic' as a 'application' and doubtless be loaded into yet another suggestions as a manner to make an comparable replica. possibly in this way you may declare that we've an immaterial suggestions, besides the fact that it can't exist aside from the textile shell that it inhabits. This seems to be a case of understanding that yet no longer of understanding how. It additionally seems to be a self glaring fact. In that this fact possibly turns into infallible. no longer purely that, it additionally seems to be universally ideal.

Karma from previous lives is the Eastern guess. If you accept that causes produce effects, then effects are produced by causes.
Not always easy to trace, but then neither are the zigzag motions of dust particles in water called Brownian movement. Just because you can't trace the sequences, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Like many philosophical ideas, this question is strictly based on the asker's view of what is actually "good." Also, though us peace loving people like to envision a peaceful Utopian society with little violence and minimal competition, you truly have to play ruff to get the stuff. This is one reason good guys come in last.

C'mon people! Life is like this just because it is. You just think that god is giving bad people the time of their lives and good people hell. Stop thinking god is controlling everything. If this were so, then there would be no reason for US to be here. And good things do happen to good people (and vice versa) It's just the magnatude of these things. Good things may be big or small. As for bad things. It's all in how you look at it. And again; stop depending on fate.

Everyone has their share of good and bad. I think it all depends on your out look too. There is always a good side to bad stuff happening you just need to look for the positive.
You may have tripped over the cat on the way out and feel in the mud, had to get change before going to work, and then on the way to work there is a big pile up on the highway and if you hadn't tripped over the cat you would have been in the mist of the pile up
