Because youo;re doing something illegal. Punishement is simply a result of someone believing something to the contrary of what you think. THus, because people think that Cannabis is bad, you will be punished for smoking it.

You shouldn't.
Let's hope the air traffic controller that is helping to land your plane didn't get the munchies while your plane was in turbulent airspace. Let's hope the surgeon who was about to perform delicate surgery on you, didn't just do a spliff with the nurses. I can think of a long list of people who I'd rather not have stoned in the their day to day lives or on a regular basis.
Personally, I think you should be taxed and all dealers should be taxed as well. I think, if you are going to get stoned rather than show up at school, that we just kick you to the curb and save the rest of us a lot of money. And, taxed to the same rate as cigarette smokers and drinkers are taxed -- no free rides here.
I also think that you should be legally liable as any other manufacturer and user of a consumer product can be held. Millions of dollars are sued for in corporate litigation. Dealers should be required to form corporations, seek insurance and leave the public to be able to sue for compensation.
And when you get behind the wheel of a car and are involved in the wounding or killing of another individual (check ER stats) that you also be charged with manslaughter in the same way that people who drink (a legal and unpunished substance) are treated.
If you are using, I think your children should be removed by the state.

If you're doing it in the privacy of your own home and not bothering anyone, then no, you shouldn't be punished.

Because second hand smoke is bad for those around you. Yes I think nicotine should be banned as well.

I think marijuana should be legalized.
