How long is a good, long life?
What should a person be able to do, what experiences should a person have in this long lifetime?
What would bring happiness into a long life .... for contentment in old age?
What sort of happiness to bring to others?

Alright...Here's my question:

Why is it that when people think of the human race dying out, it is such a horrible vision? If we all die, what's the problem? What really would be the big deal if all of us were to die out? Are we really just afraid of the "legacy" dying out? And if you're a Christian you shouldn't fear the extinction of the human race, anyway...because you believe that you're saved. And I'm not just talking about Christianity, either. I'm asking everyone...What is so inherently terrible about the thought of the human race dying out?

And my second question is this:
What is it about death that holds mankind (and womankind, if you want to get technical and deal with semantics....) in fear's grip? Why fear something that is inevitable? (I speak of death, not of the end of existance...just in case that was unclear to anyone).

Please let me know your opinion. Thank you in advance for those that answer...

Do you see it as a proper philosophical school, or a loose conglomeration of vaguely related ideas concerning meaning and mortality? Also, do you think it is essentially dead in the water these days or can (or should) ever be revived?

I don't think that time is a pshysical thing, rather a thoughtform which has given rise to a 'time culture' and offshoots. These include time pieces (watches, clocks, timers etc) lifestyles (nightlife, rat race etc) mindsets (jetlag, Monday morning blues, that Friday feeling) and so on.

This thoughtform has been perpetuated by humankind over thousands and thousands of years, to what we know today as time.

Freedom is valuable, and so must not be taken advantage of. Freedom should have limits to produce control and stability. Freedom is the ability to make your own decisions and choices without hurting others with what you say or do. Freedom is not enforcing your opinion on others just because you have the right to express yourself. Freedom is valuable, but not when you use it to hurt others or abuse them. This is my opinion... what do you think?
