Okay, God is the creator of EVERYTHING. Everything that exists has to be the creation of God. Therefore, Evil is a creation of God.

I know i know i know, Satan created evil. But God created something that could create it. Satan could not create something that god has not created. If satan could have created this, that meens he has enough power to create something equally as powerful as god. A force the exact opposite as god. This defy's christain logic. Even in this odd sense, God created something that could surpass his ability's and create something he has never made before. And knowingly create evil.

This opens another paradox. Why would he create something that would create such evil, knowing that it would cause such harm. IT DOSNT MAKE SENSE!

God had to of created evil, because he is the creator of everything. Nothing can be created w/o his ability. Still dosnt make sense.

I'm getting into philosophy and would love to begin disussing it on the Internet, but I have a pet-peeve with knowing what the hell I'm talking about before I speak. Plus I'm very intrigued by the subject(s). So what are must-reads? I know Plato's Republic and some of Freidrich Nietzsche's work but that's it.

I am 27 years old and feel dis-illusioned. When our generation was being raised we felt like the world would be a great place to live. Today's younger generation is used to all this madness of materialism and random acts of violence. The older generation saw a lot of great history take place. Peple that were born between 75-80 have seen nothing that great, only seeing the demise of the american dream. I feel like everything we were promised was a lie.

I understand each of the Modalities, but I'm not sure how they relate to possible worlds. Is the following correct? Is it failing to hit the nail on the head? (Are my conclusions in the parenthesis also correct?)

Logical Necessity: fact about the real world
Logical Possibility: doesn't describe the real world
(Logical Modality applies to the real world... AND possible worlds?)

Epistemic Necessity: applies to possible worlds, but implies the real world
Epistemic Possibility: applies to possible worlds
(Epistemic Modality applies to possible worlds.)

Deontic Necessity: what is required in a perfect obedience world
Deontic Possibility: what is allowed in a perfect obedience world
(Deontic Modality does not apply to real or possible worlds, only perfect obedience worlds defined by a set of rules or code of behavior.)

Which quantifiers can occur in "there BE" sentences, and what do they have in common?

I've figured out that there are strong quantifiers like most, all, every, both; and there are weak quantifiers like a, some, five, many.

Strong quantifiers express porportion in relation to a background set.

Weak quantifiers introduce new entities into discourse.

But, I don't see what strong and weak quantifiers have in common. I don't understand the principle that unites the concept of "there BE" quantifiers.

Would you follow me through heaven and hell? Would you follow me through pain and suffering? Would you follow me through love and hate? Would you follow me through trust and betrayal? Would you follow me through the end and the begining? Would you follow me through life and death?
--
Why not?
--
Why not follow me through ascension?
--
No Trust? No knowledge? Too much fear? Too much doubt?

As America still remains the single most powerful and influencial country in the world, we are desperatly falling. It may take long to climb the mountain, but if one is unprepaired, one will fall- fast. As we decline, China is soon stepping out place. We have truely become a decadent society and we have our own greed and shortcomings to break our fall- and our bones. I want to know, you as a people for the people for your fellow specials and the patriotism for your country... what are you honestly doing to help solve the problem of our wonderful nation? Forget about politics and even religion. What are you doing to better the species? Our roots as sentient beings dictate a drive to live, thrive, expand, explore, learn, and conquer the unknown and the oppressive all while bettering our existence and living surroundings on a universal scale, not material or petty methods. So, what do you all have to say for your self?

I'm sorting out my notes on sense and denotation, but I'm confused. When comparing sense and denotation, which of the following statements is correct?

1. Denotation points at things (set of all cats). Sense is the idea/concept a word conveys (cat... small furry domestic animal with four legs, meows...)

2. Denotation can point to either the set of all things in the real world (extension), or to the set of all things in all possible worlds (intension).

3. Denotation points at the set of all things in the real world (extension.) Sense is our concepts about what the word conveys for the set of all things in all possible worlds (intension.)

4. Denotation only deals with the real world.
Denotation does not ever deal with the set of things in all possible worlds.

5. Sense never deals with sets.
We never talk about sense applying to the set of all things in all possible worlds.

6. Both sense and denotation CAN deal with possible worlds.
