Morality is a measure of right or wrong.

Goodness is a quality motivated by love to be generous in carrying out acts of kindness.

This is different from righteousness simply because there is always that line that is easily crossed over to self-righteous. One can be right but not good. Whereas goodness is always right.

If a very just person could also be kind and considerate, then you would have a good, moral person.

Morally and goodness don't have a thing to do with each other. One can be good but not always make moral decisions, such as
calling in sick to take the family on a play day but stealing a day's
wage from ones employer.

If one were to act morally and call the police on ones brother who robbed a bank, it wouldn't work out very well for the brother's family. The family would probably ostracize the moral man while everyone struggled unhappily.

That was fun!! I hope you meant moral not mortal.

properly, Dave, there are some extreme problems with the assumptions underlying this question. First, because of the fact nearly all of people, even criminals, have some non secular association, that's sparkling that extra criminals would be got here across who declare a faith than are atheists. yet that proves no longer something. you % possibilities, no longer absolute numbers to make valid comparisons. 2nd, there are no longer any inner maximum moralities. Any number of ethical suggestions somebody would string mutually have been formulated by ability of others interior the interest of organizing society and structuring regulations for social cooperation. One would cherry %. from between the ethical and ethical structures available, yet he/she can't declare to have invented something unique. And, besides, maximum individuals get their "very own own convictions" from their mothers and fathers, instructors, and clergymen. very few individuals are philosophically vulnerable sufficient to artwork up any new suggestions. they only shop on with alongside with what they have been taught. Atheists are no different in this regard than religios. they only connect themselves to different thinkers. So, there is not any specific the Aristocracy in that, is there? third, the two atheists and Christians could be ethical and/or noble people. one in each of those massive distinction you have drawn right that's plenty too over-generalized. no longer all Christians are afraid of their god, (whether they'd desire to be because of the fact his nature hasn't somewhat replaced plenty for the reason that his irritable previous testomony days), and a few are somewhat noble interior the way they lead their lives. And, for the reason that many atheists are ethical relativists, they are continuously changing their "own morality" with the intention to justify what gratifying pastimes they desire to maintain on with. no longer plenty noble approximately that prepare, is there? So, I choose your end to be simplistic and conducive of mutual hatred between atheists and Christians. possibly interior the destiny you could attempt to take a extra truthful and much less stereotyped view of the two factors of this debate?

Rational self-interest; egoism. This is the only morality that permits you to live a non-contradictory / happy / purposeful life. All of this stuff about living to serve others turns the recipients into dependent mooches and turns the providers into resentful / guilt-ridden / frustrated mixed-bags; they can't live up.

I think that the ultimate definition of morality and goodness is selflessness. When we put others before ourselves, we will always act in an honest and moral way. When we start putting ourselves first, that's when we are "bad". People lie, cheat, and steal to further their own aspirations.
